Why doesn't my student have homework for Science?
Our science curriculum, FOSS (Full Option Science System) is an inquiry,
classroom based program. Students learn through hands on investigations
guided by peers and the teacher. Knowing the design of the curriculum,
homework will rarely be given. Only exceptions will be make up work, missed
work, or work that was not completed in class due to disruptions.

How do I know what my child is learning in Science?
We will be studying three different modules this year in science. Weather
and Water, Models and Designs, and Diversity of Life. The easiest way for
you to know what your child is learning is to ask them!!! This should be a
daily conversation. Please don't let them get away with answering, "I don't
know", or "stuff". You have my guarantee that they will be learning
something new every day!!
Can my child to extra credit?
I offer very few opportunities for extra credit. I believe that each student
should give 100% effort in all that they do. When students ask for extra
credit, I tell them to study, do well on quizzes and tests and to make sure
that they are doing the best job possible when doing all work.
Scientist of the Week is the only regular extra credit that I offer.
How does Scientist of the Week work?
Scientist of the week is a way for students to not only become more familiar
with scientists but is also a way for them to earn extra credit. Each day of
a full week of school, the students will have a clue for who the SOW is. Each
day,the clues will get easier and therefore, the point value will decrease.
If a student finds out who the SOW is, he/she must either print off or write
the internet page it was found on or email me the link to get points. If a
students gets the SOW correct on Tuesday after one clue, they will receive 5
extra credit points. If they find out the SOW on Wednesday after two clues,
that student will receive 4 points extra credit and so on.
