December 14-19 Monday December 14th, 2009 7th Daily Journal Explain everything you know about NASA and the space program This Weeks Vocabulary Electromagnetic spectrum, refracting telescope, reflecting telescope, observatory, radio telescope Assignment: Text Reading 20.1 “Radiation from Space” The students will be reading through discussing and answering questions about electromagnetic radiation 7th Homework Section Assessment 20.1 1. What is the difference between radio telescopes and optical telescopes? 2. The frequency of electromagnetic radiation is the number of waves that pass a point in a specific amount of time. If red light has a longer wavelength than blue light, which would have a greater frequency? 3. It takes light from the closest star to Earth (other than the sun) about four years to reach us. If there were intelligent life on a planet circling that star, how long would it take for us to send them a radio transmission and for us to receive their reply? 8th Daily Journal Explain everything you know about physical and chemical changes of matter. This Weeks Vocabulary Physical property, chemical property, state of matter, density, chemical property Assignment: Textbook Reading 4.1 (Red Textbook) “Physical and Chemical Properties” The students will be reading through discussing and answering questions about the properties of matter. 8th Homework Section Assessment 4.1 1. Make a chart and list 10 items in your home. On the chart include the following physical properties for each item: color, state of matter, texture and hardness. 2. Design three symbols hat could be put on containers to warn chemists that a certain chemical could burn easily and be poisonous and corrosive. 3. Explain why the temperature at which wax melts is a physical property and not a chemical property. Tuesday December 15th, 2009 7th Daily Journal Use the Visualizing Space mission’s information on page 583, 584 and 585 of the chapter 20.2 packet and create a timeline which explains and shows the different satellite missions. Use a separate piece of paper if you need to. This Weeks Vocabulary Electromagnetic spectrum, refracting telescope, reflecting telescope, observatory, radio telescope, satellite, orbit, space probe, Project mercury, Project Gemini, Project Apollo Assignment: Text Reading 20.2 “Early Space Missions” 1. Complete your daily journal 2. Read through the 20.2 reading packet “Early Space Missions” 3. Answer the section assessment questions 1-3 (pg. 587) for your reflection 4. Choose a national geographic magazine and read an article. 5. Write a ½ page summary in the form of a letter 6. Quietly read. 7th Homework Section Assessment 20.2 1. Currently, no human-made objects are orbiting Neptune, yet Neptune has eight satellites. Explain. 2. Galileo was considered as it traveled to Jupiter. Once there, however, it became an artificial satellite. Explain 3. Is earth a satellite of any other body in space? Explain your answer. 8th Daily Journal Complete the “Using Math” practice problem on page 92 This Weeks Vocabulary Physical property, chemical property, state of matter, density, chemical property, physical change, chemical change Assignment: Textbook Reading 4.2 (Red Textbook) “Physical and Chemical Changes” 1. Complete daily journal 2. Read through chapter 4.2 in the red text “Physical and Chemical Changes” 3. Complete the section assessment questions 1-3 (pg. 106) for your reflection 4. Complete the chapter 4 assessment #1-23 5. Quietly read 8th Homework Section Assessment 4.2 1. List 5 physical changes you can observe in your home. 2. When you cook an egg what kind of change occurs—physical or chemical? Explain 3. What kind of chemical change occurs in green plants when they manufacture food? 4. Which of the following involves a change of state: grinding beef in to hamburger, pouring milk into a glass, making ice cream, or allowing soup to cool in a bowl? Explain.
Or, would you like to view and optionally restore one of these previous versions?
