In Seventh Grade Social Studies we step back in time and take a good look
at100 years of U.S. history. Throughout the year we will combine history and
geography with a look at civics and economics as well. We’ll begin our
studies in the early 1800's and see how events and happenings led to the Civil
War, the conflict that nearly left the US broken in half.
With the Yankeesvictorious we’ll investigate how they put the pieces back
together again. The US became an industrial giant with the help of immigrants
and technology during the late 1800's. This growth was matched by the many
states that became a part of our country at that time. The journey through
time continues with WW I, The Roaring 20's, The Great Depression and finally
the events that led up to WW II.
Projects! What a great year to learn about our political system and how
the United States elects its leaders. Students will create journals for each
ofthe party conventions as well as a November project based on the national
election. The November Election Project will be followed by two book reports
in the spring. Your student will choose a historical fiction novel and a
biography and complete review packets and presentations on each.
