Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.

How can my child know what grade he/she has in math?

I try to keep my grades up to date; however, they are always posted in the
classroom on Mondays for the previous week. At this time, if your child
sees a missing assignment, or has been absent, they need to make sure they
get that work turned in.

They can always log on at home to check their grade, as they are usually
very up to date also. Please encourage them to check their grades regularly
to see where they can work on improving any areas they need to work on.
Remember, if they are having difficulty with tests, they can log into the
self quizzes at home for some extra practice, or stop by and see me at lunch
time, or before or after school for additional help. I'm always here to help
them become successful.

They need to be thorough on their classwork and homework, and make sure
everything is turned in on time. Any missing assignments can really affect
their grade.

What is the Problem of the Week?

		     PROBLEM OF THE WEEK GUIDELINES

AEP students will be given a Problem of the Week every Friday. Everyone
needs to attempt the problem each week. You will turn it in when you turn
in your homework folder the following Friday, and at that time be given next
week’s Problem of the Week. I will reveal the answer the following Monday,
after all of the classes have turned in the problem along with their work.
After Ten Minute Math on Monday, last week’s problem will be passed back to
you and you should be prepared to share your solution. I will give you a
cover sheet at the end of the quarter to staple to all of your POWs when you
turn them in. It is your responsibility to keep track of them in your
binder. Each POW is worth 5 points if you have attempted the problem and
include the following.
Follow this format to turn in your work:

1. PROBLEM: a restatement of the problem in your own words.

2.	EXPLANATION: a detailed explanation, including diagrams of the
process which was followed in order to obtain a solution.

3.	SOLUTION: the solution to the problem or a partial solution to the
problem, with an explanation of why the solution is the best possible.

4.	EXTENSION: extensions to the problem which may include some
questions that might be related to this problem.

5.	EVALUATION: an evaluation of the difficulty or ease of the problem
with an explanation.

* Correct Answers- will get one additional extra credit point.

* The Sudoku on the back of the POW each week is strictly for fun. This
can and will strengthen the core mathematical skills of reasoning and logic.
Anyone attempting it snd getting it right, will be allowed to draw a little
treat out of Mrs. Cheever's treat drawer. I will reveal the answers for the
POW and the Sudoku on Mondays.
