Is there homework every night?
In 5th grade students can expect to have about an hour of homework (total) per
night plus independent reading time.
L.A.- We typically have homework every night. Occasionally we may not. See
your planner and the "Homework" link for more details.
Science-Science homework is not given nightly. Assignments include family
extension activities, studying for tests, or possibly finishing class work.
See your planner for details.
Is homework ever completed in class?
Students very rarely work on homework in class, but it is possible.
Parents: If your student tells you that he finished the homework assignment in
class, please check his planner for the night's HW and have him show you
thework before signing the planner.
How can I check my grades?
Go to the Madison School District website and click on the PowerSchool link.
Enter your password to view your current grades.
A letter will be sent home, but you can also obtain your password from the
office. Student grades are also posted in class on the wall. If you have
questions, please see your teacher before or after school, or at lunch, or
call or email the teacher.
Does my L.A. draft book and my Science Journal belong in class or in my backpack?
Draft books and journals will be kept in class most of the time. If you bring
one of the above items home to complete a class work assignment or study for a
test, please return it to the cubby the next day. This will keep your backpack
light and ensure that your materials are in class daily.
Do I need my spelling book daily?
If you have a spelling book, bring it daily, for the first two weeks, but after
that only bring it on Mondays only. You can leave it home the rest of the week.
When should I start studying for a test?
For spelling and vocabulary tests, you will be practicing your words when you
do the assignments all week. For extra practice, it is a good idea to begin
quizzing yourself (by writing them 3 times each, or having a parent test you
aloud)on Wednesday, then again on Thursday, so you are ready for the test on
Friday.
For science unit tests, you should be reviewing the material in your journal
and binder sections often. Making flashcards and studying them daily starting
at least 5 days before the test is
recommended. Study guides and vocabulary lists will be provided for most
assessments.
Should my large binder be at home or in class?
Bring your binder to all classes daily as it is where important handouts, class
work, notes, etc. will be housed. You will also need it at home to do homework
and study for tests. Show your parents and discuss what you are doing in class.
