Welcome PEC Students, Parents and Staff ! My name is Katie Kallstrom, the students probably know me better as Ms. Katie, and I am your child's elementary and middle school counselor. This is my second year at PEC/PECMS and I love working with our amazing students and wonderful staff! I truly believe that every one of our students is capable of success and can achieve greatness. I am amazed everyday by our students knowledge and capabilities and am here to support them in their academic, career, personal/social and emotional needs. I am available to all students on campus for various services throughout the year. (see, The Role of the Professional School Counselor)I was born and raised in Arizona and I love spending time with my family and friends. When I was younger I wanted to be a Marriage and Family Therapist; I attended Arizona State University and received my B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Gender Studies. However, before enrolling in a Masters program I began working at an elementary school as a guest teacher and found meaning in working with students. I believe it is necessary for educators to create an environment that guides the child to find their potential. I began looking for ways to combine my passion for counseling/psychology and my love for education; all of those roads led me to School Counseling. I earned my M.Ed in School Guidance Counseling K-12 from Grand Canyon University. I am a member of the American School Counselors Association (ASCA), following comprehensive guidelines and ethical standards set forth by The Arizona Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs. (see ASCA & Arizona Model for School Counseling) I am very excited to be your child's school counselor and look forward to working with you!
