<DIV style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; FONT-FAMILY: Tahoma; FONT-SIZE: 14pt">Quarter 4 Week 9 This week in Science the students are sharing a presentation about a famous scientist of their choice. CULIMINATING EVENT:  This Friday, on May 18th, the 5th graders will be participating in a Civil War culminating event. Our homeroom is presenting billboards about inventions from the Industrial Revolution to other classes on campus. Your son/daughter has been assigned a product and is designing their billboard in class. Additionally, ALL 5th graders will be going outside to participate in a reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg out on the fields. In this battle, our class is going to be representing the Confederacy (the South). Students have been given special permission to dress out-of-uniform for this battle. On Friday, your child will need to come to school in a grey shirt and khaki uniform pants/shorts, if possible. This will help the "soldiers" look uniform when acting out the battle. We are also in need of more goggles for this event, so if you have an extra pair of goggles that another student may borrow for this event, please send them to school. We really appreciate it! :-)  <IMG border=0 alt="" align=absMiddle src="/Controls/DHtmlEditor/Images/emlove.gif">Welcome Madelynn Rochelle Lockhart!<IMG border=0 alt="" align=absMiddle src="/Controls/DHtmlEditor/Images/emlove.gif"> Maddie was born on Thursday, March 15th. She was 8 lb. 2oz. and 20 inches long! Mrs. Lockhart, Mr. Lockhart, Maddie, and Harrison are all doing great! FROM MRS. MAUGHAN: HAPPY FOURTH QUARTER STUDENTS AND FAMILY!   Hi, my name is Mrs. Maughan. I am very happy to be teaching in 5thGrade for the rest of this school year. I spent two weeks with Mrs. Lockhart before she left and have been very impressed with all of our students in the Fifth Grade. 
This is my fourth year of teaching here at PEC. I often fill in when teachers need to leave for long periods of time. I have completed long term assignments here at PEC in Third Grade, Sixth Grade Writing, Middle School Spanish, Middle School Library, and Freshman Science at PHHS. My favorite subject is writing! However, I am having great fun doing all the exciting activities we use to teach Science in 5thgrade.  
 
I grew up here in the Valley of the Sun, in a city called Litchfield Park. However, I was born in the state of Washington. I love cold weather and wearing comfy, cozy sweaters and reading a good book in front of a fire on a stormy day. I have four wonderful kids and a fun loving husband. I always look forward to spending as much time with them as I can.
 
I love teaching and working with students of all ages. I believe we all have much to learn from each other. I strive to be a teacher that will inspire ideas that will encourage a lifetime of learning.
 
I am looking forward to a successful and productive fourth quarter here in the Fifth Grade.
