Tortugas Locas: Our Mexican Restaurant 2008

Our Mexican Restaurant 2008

The students created and operated their own
Mexican restaurant in the classroom to
celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Tortugas Locas de
Sra. Tatum was a huge success!

Students Served Up Delicious Food

Each student completed an application
and applied for a position in our restaurant.
Students trained for their jobs and did an
exceptional job serving their family members
and friends. It was especially exciting for
students to serve SIS teachers Mrs. Roland
and Mrs. Navarette.

Honored Guests Visit Our Restaurant

District Superintendent Dr. St. John,
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Valenzuela and
School board member Mr. Lurkins all visited
our restaurant taking a moment to enjoy
some dessert and live Mariachi
music.

Duarte Family Mariachi Performers

While dining, parents enjoyed traditional
Mexican Mariachi music performed live by
Andres Duarte, his father and fellow performers.
The music was truly a special treat for all.

Mariachi Music Was Truly Wonderful

The Duarte family's Mariachi band performed
in the classroom as well as visiting several other
third grade classrooms. The live music truly
transformed the classroom into an authentic
Mexican restaurant.

Student Entertainers

Students created their own entertainment
acts and auditioned for their positions. Zachary
V. created quite an uproar with his hilarious
comedy act.

Amazing Parent Volunteers!

We had so many wonderful parent
volunteers! Parents filled food and drink
orders, made nachos, assisted with
classroom decorations and provided all the
delicious Mexican food we served in our
restaurant. Without our wonderful and
supportive parents, our restaurant would not
have been possible. Thanks for all your help
and support!! The students will always
remember the day they turned their 3rd
grade classroom into a Mexican restaurant.

Restaurante Tortugas Locas

Students learned so much while preparing
for, and working in Restaurante Tortugas
Locas. Students participated in all aspects of
a typical restaurant operation. They designed
all the decorations in the classroom, created
colorful menus and prepared diligently to
perform their job assignments perfectly. The
students' hard work and effort truly showed.
Congratulations on a fabulously successful
restaurant!
