Are students allowed to hand in assignments late?
I strongly believe in the concept that a due date is a due date
therefore, a no late work policy will be strictly enforced.
Students are required to complete all assigned work and hand it
on time. In the event that a student fails to meet these
requirements, they will earn a zero. Additional consequences
such as lunch detention, after school study hall, or a referral
to the office may be implemented at the teacher's
discretion.
I do not allow make up work or give extra credit work. Of course,
at times, various circumstances will warrant consideration of the
student's individual situation and again, that will be up to the
teacher's discretion.
It is my intention to help your child continue to develop
organizational skills, which will serve them for life. Taking
responsibility for completing assignments in a timely fashion is
just one these important skills.
Are students informed of the due dates?
When an assignment is given, students are informed verbally of
the due date and it is noted as well on the board. It is the
students responsibilty to write the information in their planners.
If a student is absent, can they make up the missed work?
Upon their return to school, it is the students responsibilty to
get the missed assignments and notes from a fellow student. If
handouts or packets were given, it is the students responsibility
to obtain those from the teacher. Students are given one day for
every day that they were absent to make up the missed assignments.
Is extra credit available?
I do not allow make-up work or give extra credit. Of course at
various times circumstances will warrent consideration of the
student's specific situation and I will address those
individually.
How can a student improve his/her grades?
Students are given the opportunity to "correct" writing
assignments (essays, letters, etc.) for additional partial credit.
Corrected papers must be turned in no later than one week after
the assignment has been returned.
Weekly grammar, spelling, and vocabulary packets are not eligible
for "correction."
What if my child needs additional help?
All of my students have my cell phone number and are encouraged
to call me if they are struggling with a concept or an
assignment. Tutoring is also offered after school Mondays and
Tuesdays in the Library.
Where are my child's graded assignments?
Each individual student has a folder that is kept in the
classroom. All graded work is put in their folder and must remain
there until each grade reporting period ends. At that time
students are given back their work and can do with it as they
choose. This system works well because students have access to
all of their graded work, yet the work is available for us to
clarify any possible discrepencies or errors in grading or data
entry, and it removes the possibility for lost assignments once
they have been turned in.
