**Please keep in mind that grades this year do not stop at the quarter. They
will continue throughout the semester. In other words, the grade you receive
the first day of class will continue until the last day of the semester.**
August 31: Parts of Speech. We will review the parts of speech (all eight)
and begin working on exercises. We will begin with nouns and pronouns.
August 27 & 28: Elements of Literature. We will read Charles (from the
literature book) and identify the literary elements.
August 26: Editing and Publishing. Students will edit their own paper and
another students (peer editing). Once the editing has been completed,
students will write the final copy (final copy with proper heading and title)
and turn in the final copy, first draft, and the outline.
August 25: Conclusion. Students will complete the conclusion and begin the
revising process.
August 21: Students must complete the body of the five paragraph essay.
August 20: Activity Schedule. Despite the Activity at the end of the school
day, students will complete the introduction paragraph and begin writing the
body of their essay.
August 19: Today students will construct a working thesis statement and begin
writing the hook, aka attention getter/grabber. Today students will only need
to write 2 to 3 very well written and developed sentences to grab the readers
attention.
August 18: Five Paragraph Essay. Students must write a five paragraph essay
on a person they admire. The first thing we will do is create an outline for
the body of the essay.
August 17: Vocabulary. Students must define each vocabulary word AND use the
word correctly in a sentence or story.
The vocabulary words this week for eighth grade are as follows: benediction,
riveted, resolute, precipitate, aggregation, inscrutable, renounce, insolent,
incredulous, and catastrophe.
The ADVANCED vocabulary words are aggregation, inscrutable, incredulous,
ambiguous, trite, dissipate, oblivion, sagacity, audacity, derision.
August 10: Pre-Test
August 7: Turn in the About the Author biography story
August 6: About the Author Interview
August 5: Procedures quiz.
