We are down to the last 4th Quarter Marking Period! Finish Strong and do your
best this marking period to raise your overall semester grades!
Accelerated Reader Reminder: Students, you need a total of 25 AR points by
the end of the 2nd Semester....that's not a lot of time if you haven't been
reading! Get busy, you are responsible to get those points!
Week of April 6-10:
We will begin a Spelling Unit to get back in the swing of things after AIMS.
4/7--Spelling List Practice and Worksheets 46-47 as homework (10 pts.)
4/8--Spelling List Practice and Worksheets 45 & 48 as homework (10 pts.)
Journal #66-Write a creative short story using the following words: red pen,
motorcycle, pilot, shovel, store clerk. (don't forget to underline these
words in your story)--create the setting, characters, conflict/problem,
resolution.
4/9--Spelling Quiz (20 pts.)
Journal #67--In a short narrative, tell me about your favorite place you like
to go when you're upset or just need to get away to be alone. Why do you like
this place? What makes it a great "get-a-way" spot?
4/13--Library Day! Students, please be reminded that we only have 6 weeks
left of school which means you're running out of time to earn your required 25
AR Points! Don't delay!
J68: "I followed the evil scientist into a dark room. What I saw, I will
never forget...." Take this lead-in sentence and continue with a story!
4/14-- Today we will begin our last novel that we will read in class.
Kokopelli's Flute by Will Hobbs. We will read in class and have some short
writing assignments along the way to analyze the text and meaning.
J69: "The smoke billowed in to the air like black clouds...." Take this
lead-in sentence and continue with a story.
J70: In the novel, Kokopelli's Flute, Dusty is Tepary's friend. What
characteristics make Dusty such a good friend to Tep? What characteristics do
you appreciate in your best friend?
Journal 66-70 DUE FRIDAY 4/17.
J71: Use the following words in a creative short narrative story:
post card, comic book, shell, executive, rubber sole. Underline these
words in your story.
J72: In Kokopelli's Flute, Tepary turns into an animal (packrat) every night.
Write a short story in which you turn into an animal. Where would you go?
What would you do? What would life be like? Give many details.
J73: "When I woke, the creature was dragging me in to the cave....."
Continue with a creative short story.
J74: Use these words in a creative short story: ice cream man, unicycle,
palm tree, pancakes, monkey. Underline these words in your story.
J75: While walking my dog on the beach, I found the most amazing thing washed
up on shore.....
J76: EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY! J76 is a journal topic of your choice for 5
extra credit points. This is due on Tuesday, May 5th with all the rest of the
journals. Take advantage of this opportunity!
We will finish Kokopelli's Flute some time next week, and we will take the 2nd
Vocabulary Quiz as well. Study those words and definitions.
May 11-May 15--Last week to record grades/assignments.
Monday 5/11--Dictionary Scavenger Hunt activity
Tuesday 5/12--Computer Lab: We will ALL take the Kokopelli's Flute AR Test
together. The test is worth 6 points. We will also have an online research
activity to complete.
Wednesday 5/13--Brain Teaser activities.
Thursday 5/14--Cooperative/Group Activity: Create your own country!
Friday 5/15--Friday Fun Day (provided your class has retained enough weekly
points)
