Homework

6th Grade/8th Grade:

This page will be to keep you updated predominantly on long term homework
assignments. For daily homework, please check your child's planner.

6th grade:

6th graders are now working on a weekly vocabulary packet, due
Thursdays, which will result in a vocab quiz on Fridays. Please remember to
work on these words a bit every day so that the students learn the words, not
just memorize them.

We are beginning extensive paragraph writing that will culminate in an
expository ("How To. . .") DAP paragraph. Before that, students will review
paragraph structure using notes and worksheets and will then move into
constructing their own paragraphs based on a given topic(s). You may see
worksheets starting Monday 10/26, followed by multiple drafts of various
paragraphs.

Students will also be working on book reports and vocabulary, though the
vocab will not be assigned the week of 10/26.

8th grade:

8th graders are currently doing a mini unit on Edgar Allen Poe. We have
already read and analyzed the "Tell Tale Heart" and are currently
reading "The Raven". Once completed, students will identify the themes
of "Raven" and compare and contrast them with "Heart" in a compare/contrast
essay.
We are also continuing our review of paragraphs.

8th graders also have weekly vocab packet due on Thursdays with a quiz every
Friday. They will be required to use new vocabulary words in their writing
assignments.

Please remember that reading responses are due every Friday. The students
should be reading a minimum of 5-10 pages a night. Their reading responses
should be at least 2-3 summaries, depending on the length of the chapters
read.
