This Week

You can still purchase Valentine Grams until Wednesday of this week. All proceeds will go towards the overnight field trips this spring. Thank you for all the Hershey's Kiss donations!

Book report project presentations started today and will continue every morning this week. We will finish this Friday.

Science fair packets were sent home last week. Please return the first form stating that you have reviewed the packet by this Wednesday.

We will have spelling and math assessments this Friday.

We will have a short, informal Valentine's Day celebration Friday afternoon. Students may bring Valentine's cards and treats if they would like. I put a class list in everyone's folder last week.

Homework

Reading Logs - Students are expected to read at least 30 minutes per night, Monday through Thursday, and fill out their reading log. They are required to write at least 2 complete sentences or 1 long descriptive sentence summarizing what they read. Please initial your child's reading log nightly once they have completed the written portion.

Math - Students may have Saxon homework if they were not able to complete it in class. They are to complete all the practice problems for the lesson on graph paper. If the lesson is an odd number, the student completes the odd problems of the problem set on Saxon paper. If it is an even numbered lesson, they complete the even numbered problems. I know this sounds confusing, but we go over it every day in class and the 4th grade students are getting the hang of it. The 5th and 6th grade students already know the routine from last year. You do not need to grade the math homework since we do so in class. Please encourage your child to label their name and the lesson number, complete the math in pencil, and write legibly. **6th grade students do complete lessons the second semester.
Believe me, they know :)

Spelling/Math Corrections:  The math and spelling assessments from last week will be in your child's communication folder  Monday night. Spelling corrections consist of rewriting each misspelled word three times each on a separate piece of paper. If a sentence or definition was incorrect, that needs to be corrected on a separate sheet as well. Math corrections consist of reworking the missed problem on a separate sheet of paper (Saxon or graph). If your child cannot figure out why they missed a problem after trying to rework it, they can highlight the problem on their test, and I will help them during Math Q&A on Tuesday.
