Spelling Activity List
Have someone dictate your words to you as a practice test. Explain any rules that apply at the end of your test.
Use each of your words in a unique or descriptive sentence. Avoid overly simplistic sentences.
Write a synonym for each of your spelling words.
Write an antonym for each of your spelling words.
Write your spelling words on flash cards and then alphabetize them. Staple together in abc order.
Write your words in syllables.
Write your spelling words from shortest to longest. Next to each word, write the number of letters.
Write each spelling word 3 times, using your best short/tall handwriting.
3rd years: Give the part of speech for each of your spelling words (noun, adjective, etc.)
Use a dictionary to look up each of the spelling words you are not familiar with. Once you find your spelling word, write down the two guide words found at the top of the page.
Write each spelling word and then next to each word, write as many words as you can that rhyme.
Form the plural of each word.
Write your spelling words and then choose a new ending for each of your words. Endings: s, es, er, ed, est
Illustrate each of your words.
Write a story using as many of your spelling words as you can.
Make a crossword puzzle using all of your words. Go to www.puzzlemaker.com for a template.
Make a word search using all of your words. Go to www.puzzlemaker.com for a template.
Type and print all your spelling words.
Make a mini-study book using all your words.
Say your spelling words and then spell them into a tape recorder and then play it back to yourself.
Parents can dictate the words into a tape recorder and then the student can play back the words and try to write them correctly.
