Lunch and Snack Ideas

Please send a nutritious lunch for your child. We ask that you do not send
candy, cookies and high sugar foods for your child to have at school.
Please only send 100% fruit juice or water. It would be helpful to the
teachers if for the first month or two of school that you do not send food
that needs to be warmed up, we need to focus all of our attention on your
children to help them become familiar with the routine. We will be happy to
warm food for them once everyone is more settled.

Please send your child’s lunch in containers that are easy to open, we want
to do as much as we can to ensure their success and foster their growing
sense of independence. We have found that the fold and close plastic Baggies
are easier for this age. Also just a quick idea if you are going to send
drinkable yogurts for you child. We have found the drinks to be more
successful for your child if you include a straw in their lunchbox. The
children can then poke the straw through the top of the foil and are not as
frustrated if they happen to spill. We have also found that for this age
group "go-gurts"(the yogurt in the tubes) do not work well and can be very
frustrating for your child. We recommend the good old fashioned yogurt in a
cup with a spoon.

Below are a few suggestions for lunch ideas, I hope they will give
you some new ideas to try.

Bagel w/cream cheese (plain or flavored)
Cinnamon raisin bread with butter or cream cheese
     Fruit kabobs / melon balls
     Veggie kabobs with ranch dressing
Tortilla chips with mild salsa or bean dip
     Cottage cheese with fruit
Yogurt with granola on top or mixed in
Cheese cubes or slices with crackers
Ham or turkey roll-ups with cream cheese in the middle
Cold pasta sprinkled with parmesan cheese
Peanut or almond butter on crackers
Peanut butter with apples or celery
     Tuna salad
Graham crackers with peanut butter or cream cheese

A snack calendar will be created each month with one week assigned
to each child. The calendar will specify the snack you are to bring, please
provide enough snack for 20 children, you can figure about 1/2 a piece of
fruit per child. The calendar will also include those that signed up to bring
flowers and Pizza snacks. Please do your best to remember your child’s snack
day, flower assignment and/or Pizza Friday. We will email weekly reminders to
help you out with this. You can also check the Pizza Friday link on our
website to find a list of suggested drinks and sides (fruit or veggies)for you
to bring.
