Flu/Cold Season Reminders

We thought it would be helpful to clarify/reiterate some school expectations around sick children.

  1. Please make sure your child is fever free without any fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning/bringing them to school.  Doctors have told us that if a child has a fever over 100 degrees, the child should be kept at home.  Teething typically does not cause a fever in excess of 100 degrees.
  2. If your child is diagnosed with a serious contagious illness such as Whooping Cogh, Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, RSV, etc, we will need a note from your pediatrician stating that they are ready to return to school.  In addition, please notify the main office immediately if your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness.
  3. Finally, if during the day we determine that your child is showing symptoms that indicate a possible contagious illness, we will need to call you and ask that you come and pick him or her up (as per the handbook, within one hour).  During that wait time, we will do everything possible to keep the other children from being exposed to that possible illness.  We realize the busy lives all of you lead.  Yet, we feel that the knowledge that comes from being with your child on a daily basis and knowing his or her normal patterns and behaviors gives us the insight to determine if their symptoms are severa enough to prompt us to call.

We are asking for your trust in this matter.  We are sure that all of you realize that having your child in a group care situation requires that each of you carry a commitment to the well-being of the whole as well as to your individual child.
