Homework folders will be sent home each Friday, beginning on August 26th. Work is to be completed and returned to school by THURSDAY of the following week. Students will be given a variety of assignments that are appropriate to their individual needs. Much of the work should be completed independently by students, however, some may require parent involvement or assistance in the form of reading or playing a game. Occasionally, homework may require more time and assistance, usually this is if your child is struggling with a particular concept. In addition, a reading "Book Bag" will be sent home 2-3 times per week. The bag will contain a book that is on each child's specific reading level and should be returned the very NEXT day. This is important because often the books are used in class to complete a specific assignment or to read again. RAZ Kids (the on-line reading site) will be available to us again this school year. As soon as our license has been secured by the district, I will get individual student accounts set up and notify you. The children will be required to log on to the site and complete assignments at least 2 times per week. Parent-Teacher communication is essential to insure success for each child. Please don't hesitate to contact me if there are any questions or concerns about the homework. I understand that things come up and "life happens" and that OCCASIONALLY homework won't get done on time. Just send me a note, e-mail, or a phone message and don't panic! While I believe that it's important to teach children about priorities and responsibility, I know that things don't always work out as planned. I do keep track of homework and expect each child to complete theirs AND I gladly accept late work! HOMEWORK SUCCESS (for parents): - Provide a quiet place for your child to work - Have the needed supplies (pencils, eraser, crayons, glue stick, scissors) - Help your child read the directions and make sure they understand the task - Get your child started and then walk away (but don't go too far) - Review your child's work with them, provide positive feedback while guiding them to correct any errors - Help your child remember to bring their folder back to school on Thursday - Praise independence and effort!
