What do I do if my child is Guest Reader?

Please help your child pick out a book that will take 5-10 minutes to read
aloud. Practice the book with your child as much as you can. Your child
will read this book to the class after lunch on his/her appointed day.

May I bring in treats for my child's birthday?

Yes! Birthday treats are always welcome to help make your child's day
special. Cupcakes, brownies, etc. must be store bought with the ingredients
listed. Please follow the state nutrition standards. They are listed as a
question below.
Please make sure that you send enough
treats for everyone in the class. We have 21 students. Individual snacks
are greatly appreciated. Please do not send in any red juice or soda. We
will celebrate summer birthdays at the end of the school year.
Note: Please use the student directory to send out birthday invitations. I
will not pass out invitations unless everyone is included. Thank you for
your consideration and understanding.

What do I do when my child is Star of the Week?

All the instructions will be inside the Star Tote that your child will bring
home, on the Friday before he/she is the Star. I will be choosing students
in alphabetical order, using their first name (starting with Amelia and
ending with Zayan). You can find the entire Star schedule in
our "Documents" link. The Star is also in charge of bringing snacks for the
class during his/her week. Please send nutritional snacks, which must be
reduced fat or fat free and contain very little sugar. Our new nutritional
standards require this for use in the classroom. This is a very fun week
for your child. Thank you for your participation!

What do I do with the book order that was sent home?

Book orders are sent home monthly. If you would like to order books for
your child, please make the check payable to the book club. I am also able
to order free books for the classroom when parents order books. I get a
certain number of bonus points for every dollar spent! This is a great way
to help out your child's classroom! Finally, books usually take two weeks
to be delivered. Thank you for your patience!

Do you have show and tell?

We will have show and tell beginning in
September through December. Each child will have an assigned day each week where they can
share something with the class. This is a great way for your child to build confidence in
speaking in front of other people. Please note that this will be the only
time your child may bring a toy to school. Thank you!

Can you explain the memory page?

I take pictures for a memory page that the children bring home at the end of
the year. I hope that your child's page will be a wonderful keepsake
from first grade! I use my digital camera so I am asking for a $10 donation
to help cover the cost of printing. Thank you!!
