What do I do when my child is star of the week?

Your child will be the star of the week at some point during the
school year. I will begin with the last letter of the alphabet
and work backwards. Your child will bring home the star backpack
with instructions inside. During this special week, your child
will share family pictures, fill out the student of the week
information forms, share an estimation treat with the class as
well as completing a family story in our family journal.
I would also like to include the sharing of snacks for recess
time during your child's star of the week time. If you would
like to participate, please send in five different snacks (or one
large one) for the week. This would be the only time that you
will be asked to share snacks for recess time!

May I bring treats for my child's birthday?

Birthday treats are always welcome to help make your child's day
special. Cupcakes must be store bought with the ingredients
listed. Please follow the state nutrition standards.
Please make sure that you send enough treats for everyone in the
class. Also, individual treats are always more helpful than
treats that need to be divided. Please do not send any red juice
or soda. We will celebrate summer birthdays at the end of the
school year!
One last note- Please use the class directory(sent out by Wilson
during the first nine weeks) to send birthday invitations. It is
a horrible feeling to watch the faces of first graders who were
not invited to a birthday party. I will not pass out invitations
in class unless everyone is included. Thank you in advance for
your consideration and understanding!

What do I do with the book order form that was sent home?

Book orders are sent home monthly. If you would like to order
books for your child, please make the check payable to the book
club. I am also able to order free books for the classroom when
parents order books. I get a certain number of bonus points for
every dollar spent! This is a great way to help out your child's
classroom! Finally, books usually take two weeks to be
delivered. Thank you for your patience!

Can you explain the memory page?

I take pictures for a memory page that the children bring home at
the end of the year. I hope that your child's page will be a
wonderful keepsake from first grade! I use my digital camera so
I am asking for a $10 donation to help cover the cost of
printing. Thank you!!

Do you have show and tell?

Show and tell is the only time that first graders should bring
any kind of toy to school. We will have show and tell every
other week beginning in August. I really encourage show and tell
because it builds confidence in speaking in front of other
people. As your child gets older, she/he will have to present
different kinds of reports in front of other students. This
is a nice way of introducing public speaking.
