Today we opened up our pumpkin and came up with words to describe the inside of the pumpkin.  We found out that the inside of a pumpkin  is much diffferent than the outside of a pumpkin! The students came up with some great words to describe the gooey inside of a pumpkin. After we made our list of adjectives, we wrote two sentences about the pumpkins. We will be sending our sentences home on Monday, so watch for them.  I think you will be very impressed with their writing!

Today we learned about adjectives using a pumpkin.  As a class, we came up with words that described our class pumpkin. Then we wrote the words on the outside of a pumpkin.  Then we used those words in sentences about our pumpkin.  We are becoming great writers!  Tomorrow we will cut the pumpkin and find words to describe the inside of our pumpkin.  Be sure to watch for pictures of all of the fun!

Today we did several activities to practice our writing skills.  In the morning, we practiced writing complete sentences using Halloween stickers. The students were able to write sentences using capital letters, proper spacing, and proper punctuation at the end of the sentence.  In the afternoon, we made ghost pictures and wrote three sentences describing the ghosts.  I was very excited to see how well the students did with these activities!  They did a great job!  It is so much fun to see how the students are developing their reading and writing skills!

Today we learned about the Polar regions and what animals live there.  We learned about penguins and polar bears.  We learned how penguin fathers keep eggs and baby penguins warm by setting them on their feet.  We also learned about what kinds of food they eat.

We also did a fun activitiy in our new math program.  We did an activity called "Peas and Carrots".  The students learned how to make different number combinations to make seven.  The students are learning to draw pictures to solve story problems.  We are getting very good at drawing our solutions and explaining them with words.  It is so much fun to watch the children learn.  Be sure to watch for these types of problems in next week's homework packet. I am sure you will be impressed by their problem solving strategies!

We had a great time at the fish hatchery! We learned about how fish grow.  We saw all sizes of fish. Some were very small and some were huge!  We even saw some old fish that were at least 30 years old!  We got to touch some fish and we also got to feed the fish.  We learned a lot and had a great time!

It was great to be back in the classroom after our long, 4-day weekend!  Everyone was rested and ready to go today!  We learned about the letter P.  We also worked on solving addition problems using pictures.  We started our Animal Unit in reading and science.   Be sure to ask your first grader about the fish lifecycle.  We will be getting an up-close look at the fish lifecycle when we visit the fish hatchery on Friday!
