Danvers elementary students have been filling out reading surveys to help choose this year's summer reading books. They have recommended some wonderful books, series, and authors to add to the book list. The new list will reflect popular series such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and books by popular authors Rick Riordan and Margaret Peterson Haddix. The reading surveys have generated some spirited book discussions and strong opinions. It has been a joy for library teachers to listen in on the discussions and debates! The new summer reading list is sure to put an end to the "summer slide"!

On March 28, Thorpe first grader Emma Gomes will visit the State House in Boston to receive her honorable mention award for the annual library bookmark contest. The Massachusetts School Library Association sponsors the contest each year to raise awareness of school library programs. Children's book authors and illustrators select the winners. Danvers students created some wonderful designs this year, and Emma's design was chosen in the Division I category to receive honorable mention. Congratulations, Emma!
