The prep team, and everyone else are preparing her do she has an idea in what she is going to say when it is her interview. Also Cinna says to be her self bc they all already love her they want to her the truth. Katniss is uncomfortable because she strongly dislikes the capitol and she wonders if she is going to be honest she might have to tell them how she dislikes the capitol and has no respect for it. The interviews are for the fans to get to know the tribute and make them decide their sponsors. Finally, the advise Cinna gave Katniss was very helpful. Cinna is one of the few Katniss likes since she's arrived at the capitol and trusts what Cinna says and will be her self in front of him.
The poupose of the tribute interviews is for the audience to get to know the tributes. Also, the interviews help the tributes gain sponsors and also the viewers bet on the tributes. Katniss is uncomfortable durring the interviews because she feels that that since that are taking her future, the viewers don't deserve to to take the things that mattered to her in the past. Cinnas advice help Katniss relate to the audience because she relizes that because she is nervous around Haymitch, she does not let her spirit shine through. She relizes that she does have something that is worth talking about.
I think there are a couple of reasons for the tribute interview. One, for the tributes to gain sponsors before the games, depending on if the audience like the tribute. Another could be so that the audience can relate to the tributes and that could be helpful to the tributes because it could cause the audience to feel sympathy towards the tribute. That might allow a person to grab a sponsor's attention. Mostly I think that it's could for the tributes to attract sponsors before the games so the tributes could have a better chance of surviving in the arena. I think Katniss feels uncomftorable because she doesn't like to reveal her past and she has no specific angle she is trying to go for unlike the other tributes. The book also says she was overcome by stage fright which is definitely adding to her discomfort and she is very overwhelmed. The advice that Cinna gives to Katniss before the tribute interview helped her relate to the audience because she, by being honest and by being herself, was able to admit to somethings that the audience might have done but they didn't admit to it, so they feel they can relate. His advice could definitely help her relate to the audience.
I think Peeta makes an alliance with the career tributes because he may feel like he is not strong enough to stand in the games alone. He might feel like since they have more supplies and strengths, that he is safer with them. But, Peeta might also have a plot against the career tributes. He may be Allies with them so he can get information on them but then kill the career tributes. Another reason he may be allies with the career tributes is to get on Katniss's nerves. The career tributes probably let Peeta be their allie so they can get information on Katniss that would help them kill her.
Blog 1 The purpose of the interview is so the sponsers and the aduience could find more about the tributes. This is very important because depending if the sponsers do agree to back Katniss, it could be the difference between life or death. This is why Effie, Haymitch, and Cinna take so much time and effort to get Katniss ready for it. Even though Effie and Haymitch did try to help her, their advice didn't work. Only Cinna helped Katniss by giving the advice of being herself. This helped her in the interview because everyone already loved her from her outfit and her 11 in training.
Blog 2 I think Peeta joined with the Careers and not Katniss because he thought he could live longer with them. Then he would betray them when he was one of the last ones left in the arena. The Careers allowed him to join because they wanted to know how Katniss got an 11 in training and they thought he would tell them.
My favorite part of part 2 is when Katniss covers Rue's dead body in flowers and singw to her. This is my favorite part because it shows how Katniss relized how much she truley does loves Rue and how she must win for not just herself and Prim but for Rue as well. I also enjoyed reading this part because Katniss and Peeta wanted a way to show the capital that they dont own them. Katniss made it perfectly clear to the capital and to all of Panem that she will not stand the controll that they are under. The characters that are involved in this part of the book are Katniss and Rue. Katniss is signifagant to the story because she is the main character and is the reason for many of the adventures the other characters go through. Rue is signifagant to the story because she pushes Katniss to try to win the Hunger Games and she shows Katniss how strong and powerful she can be.
Peeta forms an alliance with the Career tributes to protect Katniss. He thought by teaming up with them she would have a better chance of surviving and could lead the Careers in a different direction. The careers let Peeta join because they think he can help them find Peeta. They are somewhat using Peeta to get to Katniss and eventually kill him.
My favorite part was probably what Katniss did when Rue died. I would chose that because like Peeta said he doesn't want the capital to own him. Katniss shows that to the Capitol and saying it is more then the games it is humanity being forced to kill each other. I also like that part because it shows a sign of rebellion. Like I said she doesn't want the Capitol to treat them as if she is just part of the games they are all more than that. Finally, I also like the part when Katniss calls out Peetas name. I like that because she knows she has a chance to find him and keep him alive. And go back home.
I think that the reason Peeta chose to join the Careers instead of Katniss was to protect Katniss and the Careers excepted him because they wanted to know how Katniss outscored Cato and the others. Peeta was probably able to protect Katniss by being aware of the Careers' plans and maybe stopping them if they tried to harm her. After the Games start, Katniss overhears them talking about getting rid of "Lover Boy" but they rejected the idea because he was also apparently good with a knife.
(blog 3) My favorite part of part II is when Claudius templesmith announces that there can be two victors that year. this my favorite part because now Peeta and Katniss have a chance to both return to their families in district 12. But now Katniss must find the badly wounded Peeta in the arena.:):):)
My favorite part so far was when Katniss sawed off the branch with the tracker jacker nest onto the Careeers. I liked this part because she sort of "stood up" to the Careers even though she wasn't really meaning too and eliminated two other tributes in the process of defending herself. This was also Katniss's first encounter with Rue. She has much importance to the story in the rest of this part. For example, she and Katniss get to bond before Rue dies which neither of them sees coming. Peeta actually saves Katniss and Katniss realizes why Peeta joined them. I personally liked the image the author gave of Glimmer's body even though it was a little disturbing.
My feelings while reading about Cato's battle with the wolf like mutations was that the game makers sort of relized that Katniss and Peeta were not going to go out and hunt Cato down because they did not want to risk their lives and the chance to win the games. The game makers sent the 21 mutations out to get Cato and then lure Katniss and Peeta in. I also think that Katniss and Peeta were excited to see that the mutations were after Cato because it made killing him easier. While reading the description of the attack I thought it was believable. I could clearly picture Cato on top of the cornucopia, strangling Peeta, while the mutations were struggling to climb up the cornicopia. I could also see Katniss shooting the arrow into Cato's hand.
I thought that the battle was pretty realistic considering it took place in the future, but it couldn't happen now. All I could think about was the eyes though. If the wolves really did have the real eyes of the tributes, I couldn't help but think about how they got their eyes out of the body of the tribute. Also how did they get the brains out? Did they cut open the heads and cut out the eyes? I guess that's up to the reader. I also thought the wolves would go for Cato's head where he was more vulnerable even though the Gamemakers thought it was the final word in entertainment, the climax of the games. Overall, I thought the battle was pretty cool the way I thought about it.
Blog 3 My favorite part in part 2 was when Katniss blew up the Careers supplies. This is because it showed that the other tributes had a chance in the Games. The charatcers involed were Katniss, Prim, Foxface, all of the Careers, and the boy from district 3. Katniss and Prim made the plan, and exicuted it, to destory the supplies. The boy from district 3 reactivated the land mines which guarded the supplies and destored them. The Careers had the supplies and fell for Prims bait. Foxface was an example of the tributes that had a chance in the Games.
Blog 4 Cato's death was very believable. Collins' lead up to it was really interesting how she empted the river so they would go to the lake. Also, she gave Cato the armor, but I think the really great part was how she started the games at the cornucopia and ended them at the cornucopia. I found the mutations extremely creepy because if they really had the other tributes eyes then it made me think how they got the eyes out of the tributes and in to the mutations. Also, I thought it was horrible how long Cato suffered from the mutations. The Gamemakers were brutally cruel just so the viewers would watch longer. I am glad the detail was minimal because I woundn't like to read about Cato suffering even more. Overall Cato's death was believable, gruesome, and really showed what the Hunger Games is about.
I thought the battle was realistic but couldnt take place now, in the future maybe. I felt even though there had to be a winner, I wanted Cato's suffering to stop. The gamekeepers were just making him get tortured to death to put on a show. I could see Peeta and Katniss on the cornicopia, Peeta in a head lock amd Katniss deciding what to do. Also I couldn't stop tinkling about the eyes. If those were the real is of the dead tributes how did the get them out?
(Blog 5) Even though I had already read the Hunger Games and the rest of the series I enjoyed the reading group. I thought I got a better understanding when we stopped and talked and analyzed what we just had read. What really strikes me is how "deep" Suzanne Collins made the characters be. Also had she made the capitol seem like a horrible place to district 12 but a wonderful place to district 2. Finally, the last thing that strikes me is how she well she can describe the deaths but not make it disturbing and how detailed she gets when the tributes are doing something
Being apart of this book club was great. My understanding of books and characters was enriched. I also learned how people, like Suzanne Collins, can take what they know and feel then pour it into a story. Even though Ive already read the series it was so much better this time because I got to talk about it with others. What really strikes me about the authors ability to portray the topic was how well she described the characters. Each and every one had a great angle and different emotions.
My thoughts were that it was fun to read a book I like a third time with a group. I liked the discussions we had. What really strikes me is how well written and described the book was and the authors use of language. I had fun in the group and the book was good. 😃😁😄
Blog 5Without the reading groups, I dont think i would have read the Hunger Games and really would have missed out. I don't know how I abandoned it in the first place. The group made things clear to me and gave me different perspectives on the book. Also things I didn't realize or think of the group did. I am looking foward to reading the rest of the series.
While reading the Hunger Games with the book group, I enjoyed hearing other peoples thoughts about the book. Others thoughts sometimes made my question my thinking. What strikes me about the authors writing is her imagination and detail. They way that Susan Collins created the mutations, the events in the games, and the whole idea of an annual television show where you watch people you love fight to the death shows how big her imagination truely is. Also, she put so much description and detail into her writing, that I felt like as I read I was taken into that time period and was actually there.
