The beginning of school is a time for us to really get to know one another and build our classroom family. That is a delight of Pre-K. We have made great gains! I have seen children go from not talking to communicating freely with Mrs. Jackson and myself and the other children. I have watched as we transformed from children who cried when things were tricky to big kids who solve problems and rarely if ever need help for our daily tasks. We have seen those moments of enlightenment when we finally learned that it really is "better to be nice, than to be first". I have no doubt that one of these children will change the face of our world! They certainly have reminded me of the most important things!
That being said, we have mountains to climb before our year is over and we will hike on that path everyday! The first semester skills were relatively easy for our students, but the second semester will be trickier. We will be held accountable for writing our own names (every time, without teacher help). We will recognize numbers to 20. We will be responsible for all the letters. We will have to cut on lines with ease. We will have to recognize words that begin the same. We will hear and match rhyming words. I can assure you that none of this will be so easy. The great news is, we are not average children. We can and will be successful. Keep reviewing what we have learned, as I will in the classroom, and make sure to watch for your Pre-K Post in your email box. (No more paper copies!) Please check with your child on any skill I discuss in the Post. Check to make sure they can do it, and then practice a couple of times to ensure that it is EASY for them. Thanks for all your help. We will have a BLAST.
