It has been a very exciting last few weeks as we have embarked on a journey into the second semester.  We have worked hard on several skills, but the one that I am most excited about is.....We are beginning to sound out words!!!!!!  Now grant it, we do have a lot of guidance with this, but I am seeing lots of light bulb moments with my Pre-K kiddos, and we have much to celebrate.  The step after learning letter names and sounds is to put those sounds into practice, and our kids are doing just that.  We are writing one or two three letter words everyday and they are being exposed to the procedure for how to "sound out" those easy words.  They LOVE this time.  It is a hands down favorite for both of my classes.  I love what I see in them, and you should get them to show off their new found skills.  Just remember, it is very early on in this reading game, so make is FUN!!!!  Don't ever do anything that makes them frustrated.  If they forget a sound a letter makes, provide it.  If they can't quite blend those sounds together between the letters, help them out.  It should be a positive and happy time for both of you!  Enjoy it, I promise you, I do!!!
