Ben suggested yesterday that we create a blog entry page for the remaining books in the Hunger Games trilogy...since so many of you have read the books and are dying to talk about them.  This page will be the home of discussion and spoilers - so please don't read on if you don't want any surprises ruined...this series does make for excellent discussion!!!

    Hi Matthew...
"The Hunger Games" is the book our class just finished reading and some of the students have read on through the remaining books in the trilogy. Spoilers haven't been posted yet because my students are clearly so engrossed in their own learning and studies that they just don't have time.

It really bugs me how people are saying District 13 is in the District 12 mines.... and how Peeta was captured by District 13.... this is the CORRECT story..... District 13 is underground beneath the ruins of the previous Discrict 13..... NOT in the District 12 mines.... and Peeta was captured by the CAPITOL..... NOT District 13.... sorry I just needed to put that out there :P

ATTENTION! For anyone who is interested, I will be reading "Catching Fire" Mondays at lunchtime for anyone who'd like to relax and absorb themselves in a story ;)

Suzanne Collins should write a fourth book about what's happening on the other side of the world, while the hunger games is happening. Then all the districts will meet up with the dudes from across the world and have one great epic battle. Wouldn't you all buy that book. That would be so INSANE

I would totally buy that book! It would be so intense reading about how those OTHER governments oppress their citizens...then Katniss would have to save the WORLD instead of just a worldwide Hunger Games extravaganzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

I think Katniss made the right choice in marrying Peeta! Like it said in the book she and Gale are soo alike it would be just like marring yourself! Plus I just like Peeta a lot more!

WHY DID FINNICK DIE???? That stink if you ask me!! I think that he was such a funny yet great part of the story! Suzann also never really said what happened to Annie after his death! I think she should explain that! Also this ight sound mean but I think that it was good Prim died, because you are not at all expecting that to happen so it really puts a spin on the story!!

Post from Ben (the recent teenager ;)

First things first, mr. richards, I believe the book has alot more to offer than the movie in most cases. For me it's because I can often imagine how things could look myself. In other news, I finished mockingjay. My review score.... about a 4 out of 10. I give it this score because to me, it didn't really end up being a Hunger Games book. So many things changed from the first and second book to the third in a bad way. One thing is the main character, Katniss. Originally she was an actual character, had multiple levels of personality. But sadly, in mockingjay, she lost her character to me and turned from a character to a couple emotions; Sorrow and Anger. She didn't really seem to make decisions that katniss would. She would make decisions that a generic angry or sad person would. One other thing wrong with the book is that it felt like it wasn't reallybuilding the tension well. There would be an event, than it would just go back to be a calm-ish story. The only part where it was constantly was the final part when they were storming the capitol. Final thought about the book, often with these books, at least for me, they had a constant "things are bad, i'll have to fix it." attitude. Then at the end it had the attitude of "Things are okay, but something's not quite right" attitude. In this book, it was a constant " Things are terrible, i'll do what i'm told most of the time and sulk about" until the end where it wss simply " i'm still sad, but things are better." at no point did katniss have any trace of getting out of her depression, so the author tries to stuff all the time that it would take it to get out of her depression into a few pages. Overall, it was not too great of a book. I did extremely enjoy the first and second. If any of you disagree, please say so. I'm always in the mood for a healthy debate :)

Katniss really did lose all her personality in the third book! In the first book she and Peeta would joke around and laugh in the games. But in the third book especially it was all serious. That took out a lot of the fun of reading the book! I felt it was way more serious, which in a way, they're fighting the Capitol so it is serious but Suzanne Collins did lode a bit of the humorous and fun side to the Hunger Games! I would rate Mockingjay 6/10 so 60% or a C+! (I think)

Interesting reviews ladies and gentlemen! I agree that in fighting the capitol, loved ones dying (presumably directly related to your choices and actions), your home being destroyed and being an unwilling forced hero to the nation is a lot of pressure...and wouldn't allow for a ton of humour. though, even in the toughest of situations, one would have to find a way to laugh, or else a full breakdown would happen (I think.) I remember when a movie called "Life is Beautiful" came out about the Holocaust - and it had many comedic well as the play version of "Diary of Anne Frank" - many funny moments. My friend Shelley can't stand either because she thinks they are mocking a serious time. But human nature demands that we laugh...even when we're scared or sad - we find ways to laugh...otherwise, why wake up in the morning??
I am really appreciating your responses! Keep 'em coming!

I did still cry at the end though...when they stormed the capitol and we lost Prim...whew! Niagara Falls...

I think Suzanne Collins should add a prequel to the story. That would explain what the districts were like before the Hunger Games. It would also explain how the Hunger Games got started in the first place. I like KC's idea about the outside world meeting up with the Panam, and having a war. Go Katniss go!

I JUSST FINISHED MOCKINGJAY ! I don't know if I'm happy that I finally get to join this discussion, or sad that the series is a trilogyFrownI am ecstatic that Katniss marries Peeta, as I might have fallen into deppression if she didn't. But I think that Suzzanne Collins should add a fourth book, I have to know about their children ! I have to hear more about Katniss and Peeta ! And, I hope that Gale is all hte way out of Katniss's life because all he does is ruin things !Smile
