Hey Guys

We've been comparing/contrasting Egypt with Mesopotamia in our lecture and discussion.  Many archaeologists originally thought EGYPT was the "Cradle of Civilization", while other research asserts that it was MESOPOTAMIA that emerged first.  We DO know they were contemporaries...but what do YOU think??? I agree with the fact that they were contemporaries. No dissagreements over here.

I think that Mesopotamia was the cradle of civilization. This may be simply because I have been raised being told this, but the mesopatamians developed a much better writing system. The mesopotamians developed much more advance agriculture, and it was out of Mesopatmia that Hammurabi's code emerged.

My opinion is that Mesopotamia came first, because they evovled during a longer duration. If Egypt had been the first civilization, wouldn't they have taken longer to develop? when you're leraning something for the first time, it's harder than if you are leraning something already known.

Mesopotamia is probably the best candidate for the first civilization.Egypt was an isolated land that probably only influenced the western world (through Greece). Mesopotamia on the other hand was in the middle of trade routes between early Europeans, Egyptians, and the Indus river Valley civilization. This would have allowed it to influence more parts for the world than the Egyptians. That would allow it to influence civilization

I believe it was Mesopotamia that came first they had very little means of technology therefore they had to create more with there common knowledge while Egyptians didnt have to do as much technology wise they also had more developed types of social class instead of just saying what you are, so they based it on your income.

I believe that they arose at about the same time, meaning that our system of government is based off of both Mesopotamia and Egypts ideas such as the fact that we have a central government which is broken down into smaller systems of government. And the idea that we have one ruler (Our president).

I believe that Mesopotamia was the first civilization, because we have more proof. Egypt was the first advanced society, but Mesopotamia still came first.

My own opinion is Mesopotamia can brfore Egypt. Mesoptamia took longer to delveop new techonogly and had more basic techonogly . They started out small and got big. The less technogly the more basic something is going to be. So the less techonogly the longer somethimng has been out.

I belive that although Egypt became more civilized first, that Mesopotamia was settled earlier. Our textbook states that domestication of animals and plants took place in Mesopotamia in 8000 BCE and that farming villages appeared in Egypt in 5500 BCE. If Mesopotamia had already begun to domesticate animals almost 3000 years before Egyptians had begun forming villages, the Mesopotamian people were obviously there first.

Mesopotamia came first in my opinion because most of the scientific proof is there. The Sumerians inhabited in 3500 B.C , Mesopotamian culture came first because we have less evidence of their existence so the information of their existence has been hidden for a longer period of time. Many believe that Egypt came first merely on their intellectual advances but, the facts rule in Mesopotamia's favor.

My opinion is that mesopotamia came before Egypt. Even though, Mesopatamia was not as technology sophisticated as Egypt was. However I do believe Egypt was "Cradle of Civilization."

I believe that Egypt came before Mesopotamia. Archaeological beliefs point to the fact that Africa supported the first homosapians. It doesn't make any sense to believe that people got to Mesopotamia before Egypt. Egypt was a more sustainable place to live because of the Nile and all signs point to Egypt in my opinion.

I believe that they emerged about the same time because we can not prove who was the cradle of civilization because it was so long ago so why don't we let them both share the title. They both have shown that they are an intelligent civilization, they both surrounded flooding rivers. They also had forms of writing, and some type of democracy. They used bronze tools and building great structures like the pyramids and ziggurats.Call it a draw, let them both be recognized for being a intelligent civilization.

I think Mesopatamia was first because their is a lot more proof saying it was and Egypt was way more developed class wise and you cant just start off being that structured, right ?

i think that the Egytians were established first and they have the right to be noticed that they were. i say this because the mesopotamians had more advanced technology than the Egyptians.

I believe Mesopotamia came first because they barely had any tools invented in there time so they had to put a lot more effort into to simpler things. While Mesopotamia went through a lot of struggles to do small things the people of Egypt were able to build pyramids and sphinxes, which makes them way more developed in technology and proves the point that Mesopotamia was the cradle of civilization!

I believe that Egypt as a society came before Mesopotamia. As we have learned, life began in sub-Saharan Africa. The pre-modern humanoids traveled up through Egypt and Israel into Mesopotamia, Europe, and Asia. If it is true that human life did start in Africa, it would make sense that its first civilization began there. Also, the Egyptians, albeit they created the pyramids, must have been somewhat earlier than Mesopotamia because they just let the river Nile so as it wished. Their farming was easier. The Egyptians also had more advanced technologies such as astronomy and watching for the tides, and predicting when the Nile would overflow. These technologies need time to develop in any society.

I think that mesopotamia came first. although they are both around the same time period mesopotamia took much longer to develop which means they had no technology (or very little) to start with. Egypt however didnt take as long to develop. Which means that they probably had pervious technology to help them develop further so they couldn't have come first.

I'm pretty sure that Mesopatamia cam first. The main reason I believe this, is because they needed irrigation whereas the Egyptians depended on flooding. So the Mesopatamians probably needed a good amount of time to figure out what irrigation was, therefore I think they came first.
