There has been some newer research into the Feingold Diet as a help in treating people with autism spectrum disorders. The Feingold diet eliminates three groups of synthetic food additives and one class of sweeteners:
   Synthetic colors (FD&C colors)
Synthetic flavors (several thousand different chemicals)
Synthetic preservatives (BHA, BHT, and TBHQ)
   Artificial sweeteners(aspartame, Neotame, and Alitame)

There is an article at www.autism-help.org. The site has 350 fact sheets for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders.

What do you think of this? Has anyone tried this?

  • As you know we attempted the GFCF (gluten and casien free) diet with Caleb who was recently diagnosed with autistic disorder. The diet did not make very significant changes and he was miserable and hungry all the time. We finally allowed him to have things he hadn't had in almost 4 months and didn't notice any significant changes afterward either. I think that eliminating the artificial colors and flavors from anyone's diet is beneficial because it helps us to replace those things with fresher foods, fruits, and vegetables.
