With it being a short week, time is thin!

Eighth grade will be continuing their study of descriptions and using ser and estar. We will be practicing our listening skills and speaking skills in the coming weeks as well.

All high school classes are starting a mini-unit in conjunction with Mr. Gorne's choir class. Since the choir class has been studying a Basque Christmas carol, we started pulling it apart it in class and did image drawings about the carol. We will continue the study of Basque Christmas by reading about Olentzero, the coal miner who comes down from the mountains bringing gifts and looking for good food, later this week and conclude the unit with a project comparing US holidays and Spanish speaking countries' holidays.

Spanish 1 students will be creating a children's book comparing US holidays to Spanish speaking countries' holidays. Spanish 2 students will be comparing the same but with an oral presentation. Spanish 3/4 students will be writing a short essay comparing the two. These will be due November 30th for A Day classes and December 1st for B Day classes.

Side note: in order to be balanced and to be celebrate all the diversities present in our school, all high school students will be looking at Judaism and Islam in Spain during the month of December.

Enjoy your day off! See you at parent teacher conferences next week!

The Drop Dead Date for first quarter was yesterday. I'm very proud to report that there are only three grades that fall below a 70% in my classes!

Eighth graders have completed their Day of the Dead unit with an in-class essay. They will be continuing onto more vocabulary and reemphasizing verbs learned thus far.

Spanish 1 will be working on dates, days of the month and months of the year for the next couple of weeks. They will be doing this in conjunction with relearning present tense and looking at stem changing verbs in the present tense.

Spanish 2 will be working on weather and will be watching weather patterns here at home and at places abroad. They will be reemphasizing preterit and imperfect tenses while expanding their vocabulary.

Spanish 3/4 has started work on their final project of creating their own planet, country and city in the manner of a pop-up book. We've begun with geography vocabulary and will be looking at creation myths to help them in their final project.
