In Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, he enlightens the reader on the themes of love, friendship, money, revenge, and justice (tempered with mercy).  Choose one of the moral lessons Shakespeare teaches in this play and explain how the lesson is prominent in your life.  Write 2-3 paragraphs.

The Dark Romanticists explored the conflict between good and evil, the psychological effects of guilt and sin, and madness in the human psyche (p.173 Elements of Literature).  Having read several of Poe's stories, discuss an example of all three of these characteristics found in his writings. For Example, you may choose one story that portrays all three characteristics, or you may choose a different story or poem for each one.  Remember you are writing about literature; don't give any summaries, and write in present tense. Use complete sentences and brushstrokes.
