For 3rd Quarter, we will be focusing on the Fabulous and Famous I-SEARCH, a research project that allows students to choose their own topics while learning and practicing many of the skills necessary to write a successful research-based paper. We will be spending about 6 weeks on this project, focusing on researching, note-taking, paraphrasing, avoiding plagiarism, writing a bibliography, and - finally - tying it all together in a large paper. While there are many small due dates along the way, the FINAL DUE DATE for the I-SEARCH will be Friday, March 9. Please see the I-Search link or the Calendar link for many more important dates.    

Your Independent Reading score is one of the most important grades each quarter.  You are required to read 1000 pages per quarter.  If you commit to reading 22 pages / 5 nights a week, you will have no trouble reaching this goal!  Every time you finish a book, make sure to complete an Independent Reading form and turn it in.  You will see your progress on your class chart on the back wall.  I score your reading twice each quarter.  At the Mid-Quarter check, you should have at least 500 pages turned in to get the 100 points possible.  While it will affect your Progress Report grade, this is just a Red-Flag score so you can see where you are headed in terms of your reading grade.  At the end of the Quarter, I erase the previous score and replace it with the total number of points you've earned out of 200.  If you have read all 1000 pages by then, you will receive full credit.  Keep reading and turning your forms in!

Welcome, 8th graders!

The beginning of a new school year is one of my favorite parts about being a teacher!

I know it's hard to come back after the fun summer, but it's also so much fun to have an exciting new group of students to work with!  I look forward to watching my new students learn and grow into the young adults they are becoming over the time we have together!
