I do not want anyone to panic, but there are only two more weeks left to this semester. So, if your student has not been doing all their work, or has not been studying for tests, or not doing projects, there are 14 days before I have to submit grades.

We are going to be really busy this week in English for both sixth and eighth graders. There are tests for the stories we have been studying tomorrow (Tuesday) and the District Periodic Assessments will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. I am confident that you will all do well on these Assessments as we have been reading examples of expository text. Just remember to come to school and get a good night's sleep.

In social studies, we are almost done with the first three units of the textbook. There will be an exam that will cover all of this the first week of February. You will do great as have been having fun discussing as we have been learning.

I am pleased to let you know that I will be back in school tomorrow (Monday) and I am finally able to breathe. The lung infection I had was truly awful. I will be out of the classroom on Wednesday and Thursday this week, but I will be on campus. I have to work on plan proposal for Hale.

On a happy note, two things. My son returned safely from his Birthright trip to Israel. He loved it and I have lots of photos to share for history! And, we adopted a new dog. We named him Bowie, he is a border collie mix, and he is about 1.5 years old. He is the BEST! We were able to acquire him through Ranch Dog Rescue, and, yes, he, too, is going to school to be an even better listener!

    Have a great week!

Bowie surveying the house next door!

Bowie wants to say hi to all of you!

The assessment mystery has been solved! If you are trying to access the assessments with the code I give you at school, it will not work. You need to email me for a new user name and password. Those of you who lost or misplaced your user name and emailed me earlier were able to get on because I emailed you the correct information. Phew!

On another note, THANK YOU to everyone for the best feast ever! The food was amazing and all the parents, grandparents, and one baby brother were most welcome and helpful. I am so blessed to have all of you in our classroom community this year. Again, thank you!

We have less than a week before we are back in school. Can someone please tell me where the time went? I spent most of the time with my husband and sons. We were all together for 10 days before my one son had to head back east (He is actually in Israel right now!). My other son and I went on a big adventure on New Year's Day. We took the Metro from the Universal City station to Long Beach where we spent the day at the Aquarium of the Pacific. It was an awesome day!

I hope you are all having spectacular adventures this break as well. I know that many of you were traveling and others were staying close to home. The weather in SoCal is the best in the nation. We cannot complain.

Also, I have a Facebook account for the French Club called Hale Wexler.

Have a great rest of the week and do not forget to email me for your correct user name and password.

    Best,

    Mrs. Wexler

This is the message I received from CORE K12 Tech Help:

    Dear Ms. Wexler,

I just took a look at some of the assessments that you assigned and you did them correctly. I logged in as a few of your students and I can view all of the assessments and the start buttons needed to access them.

I really have no clue why your students can't see these assessments. I think it's best that you have everyone who is unable to see them contact us directly. It could be a cache issue, type of computer they are using issue or many other random things.

Please have them reach out to us if they are still unable to view the assessments. We can be reached directly at (888) 745-7737 and tell to let the representative know they are calling in reference to ticket #207337.

    Regards,

Some of you have been able to access the assessments. Congratulations!

This is the correct web address: https://ac.corek12.com

You do not need a password. The assessments should appear on the screen after you sign in. You need to use the correct user name and password that I gave you in class.

If you continue to have difficulties accessing this site, do not worry. We will figure it out when we get back to school.

We are going to be having a very busy week!

All homework is posted for sixth and eighth graders. Please check it! There are tests and work due this week. The online assessments are due the first week of January. This is the link: https://ac.corek12.com/assessmentcenter/ If you lose your user name and / or your password, please email me and I will send it to you right away. There are additional due dates posted for January. All information is posted under handouts.

Progress reports are going home this coming Friday

Sixth grade parents: If you would like to volunteer for our Multi-cultural Feast, please email me at btw9369@lausd.net as soon as possible. The feast will take place at 8:30 and we will be setting up the goodies in C101. Remember, this is a tasting menu. We need a 'taste' for 80 students! The Holiday Buddy exchange will take place third period and you are welcome to stick around for that as well!

When reviewing materials for English and history, all prior unit notes and grammar notes are uploaded to either Handouts for Periods 1, 2, 3, 4 or Handouts for Period 6. Check there often for updates.

Do not forget that the Biography Book Report is now due 11 January 2012. This is a NO EXCUSES project! The project may be turned in early but no later than this date!

    Happy Holidays!

French Club now has a page on Facebook! Join today! Hopefully I set it up correctly. The prices for the trip to New Orleans are good through January 1, 2012.  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003269048478&viewas=100000686899395&returnto=profile

    I
f you are interested in going on the trip to Canada in 2013, please let me know. Do you want to go the last week of winter break or for spring break? If we go during spring break, we will not be in California for Easter or Passover. I want to get the dates set for this trip as soon as possible!

French Club will be having its first fundraiser tomorrow (12/12) after school. Come and support us!

I realize this is all a little crazy but I have decided to postpone the trip to Canada for several reasons:
    1. I want the students to have at least a year to raise funds for this trip. It is an expensive trip and I want to make it more affordable to all who wish to travel with me to Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto, and Niagara Falls
    2. I want to make sure that all who want to come along on this adventure will be able to do so by giving everyone a year to save up for this trip.
    3. I want to give parents the opportunity to have their children travel with me on a shorter trip within the United States before entrusting them to me for an 8-day trip to Canada!
The information for the trip to New Orleans is posted on the website. It is a lot more affordable and it is jam-packed with activities! I hope some of you will allow your students to travel with me. The prices quoted are for students and there is an adult price as well. I figured we could go to a French-influenced city in the U.S. before we ventured into a foreign country.

There are two options for the trip to Canada. We can go the first week of January 2013 (the third week of winter break) or we can go during spring break  2013 (which would mean we would be on the road for Passover and possibly Easter). If you are interested in your child traveling with me to Canada, please email me as soon as possible with your travel date preference. I am also setting up a separate NewsFlash for parents who are interested in having students travel to one of these destinations with me.

And, students do not have to be members of French Club to travel with us. The trips are open to all sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.

Mrs. Welsh is still planning her trip to New York City this spring break. This trip is also open to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. Here is the link: http://www.smithsonianstudenttravel.com/preview-tour.aspx?pt=WE-1106716

Mrs. LaCour also has a trip for eighth graders during spring break. Here is the link: http://www.smithsonianstudenttravel.com/preview-tour.aspx?pt=LA-1009935 and more information can be found at: http://web.me.com/mrs.lacour/Mrs._LaCour/Home_files/NEW%20YORK%20FLYER%20%231%202012-HALE.pdf

    Happy travels!

On Thursday we celebrate Thanksgiving and we have so much for which to be thankful.

    • Hale is a great school with the best students in all of LAUSD!
    • We have amazing parents and guardians supporting us every day.
    • Although there have a lot of new faces in our different offices and within the custodial staff, we are lucky to have awesome people working here.
    • I am especially blessed for several reasons: my students, my sons, and my wonderful husband. And, most important, my entire family will be together to celebrate Thanksgiving
    • And, finally, I have the best job and chosen career!

Happy Thanksgiving. Remember to take the time to be truly thankful!
