    Next week is the national celebration of thanks in our nation called Thanksgiving. The Continental Congress scheduled the first Thanksgiving for Thursday, December 18, 1777, to celebrate the defeat of General Burgoyne at Saratoga. In 1789, George Washington proclaimed a one-time-only day of thanksgiving for Thursday, November 26, to celebrate the new Constitution.
     
    As you think about God's blessings this past year and your hopes for the future, write a 1 paragraph prayer indicating both.  Be sure to address your prayer in letter form and include specific details.  10pts.  Due 11/23

    The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) are less than 100 days away.  The host city is busily preparing for the many visitors that will patron their city during this important athletic event.

    Click on the link to your favorite winter Olympic event.  Listen to the podcast about the event

    This week voters in many states will go to the polls to elect government officials and vote on various state and local issues.  In one paragraph, choose 1 government race or issue from your local ballot and expand upon its goal(s) for the community.  Be sure to write specific information on the measure, bond or government office up for election in your write-up also including the results of the returns.     In class, we have talked about the ideas that were a catalyst to the Revolutionary War.  These ideas changed this newly discovered lands into a land of freedom for many of the colonist.  The Declaration of Independence  is one of America's most cherished documents  that voiced the reasons for separating from Britain.  These ideas were the principle of government  upon which the United States would later be built (Creating America, p.182)
     
    Read the Declaration of Independence on pp. 182-185.  In the final paragraph of the Declaration, the colonist made a pledge. List 1-2 causes that you feel strong about and would make a similar pledge.  Be specific in your response as to why your are passionate about your chosen cause. (10pts.)  Due 11/2

    Last week, we began a discussion about propaganda and the Revolutionary War.  Many editors used the local newspaper as a way of spreading their ideas about the English monarchy or the colonist.
    Peruse a news source for a political cartoon about local, state or national government issue.  Explain in paragraph form the message the cartoon is displaying and as well as your opinion about it.  Be sure to cite your source and include the date at the end of your paragraph(s). due 10/26

    This past weekend, many Americans mourned and watched the funeral of Senator Ted Kennedy.  Senator Kennedy's past and current family members are iconic in America's great history.  Talk to any member of your immediate or extended family ( grandparent's, uncles, aunts, etc.) and find out their memories of the Kenndy clan.
