This Wednesday we walk to Hale Middle School.  Hale does a fabulous job of highlighting many of the amazing programs they offer their students, touring the 5th graders around the school, and getting them acquainted with middle school life.  We will be leaving immediately in the morning.  Students may bring small backpacks to carry their own water, and are welcome to bring a snack, but Hale typically provides a snack for us.  We will be back by lunchtime.  This is the perfect day to wear Welby wear and 5th Grade apparel!

Next week we have minimum days Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday to accommodate for Parent/Teacher conferences.  A pink sheet went home last week.  If you are interested in conferencing with me, please select times that you are available.  You can also opt out of conferences if you do not feel that it is necessary at this time.

March 1, we are taking a field trip to the Music Center.  Many students returned trip slips, some still have not.  Please click flyer below:

Valentine's Day is on Tuesday.  For students who wish to bring in Valentine's for the class: there are 30 children:  14 girls and 16 boys.  We will be passing them out in the afternoon.

Parent Surveys went home last week.  It is extremely important that we have 100% participation.  Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey and return it with your child by Wednesday, February 8.  Thank you in advance.

Coming up are some 5th grade milestones:  Thursday, February 16 is 5th Grade Panoramas and Graduation Gown Photos.  In order to ensure that you get a Panorama, you will want to preorder.  The Graduation Gown photo, on the other hand, does not need to be preordered.  You can wait until you see it to order it.

We are taking the walking field trip to Hale on February 22.  Let me know if you would like to join us.

Thank you for getting in your Pali payments!  Just one more payment due date:  Woohoo!

Because we won't have time to do Zearn in class prior to our math lesson tomorrow, the kids and I talked about getting lesson 6 done at home at some point before returning to school on Tuesday.  Sorry about the "weekend homework" assignment this week.  It makes a huge difference to do the lessons prior to the lessons, but if a student is unable to do it before Tuesday, he/she can make it up Tuesday night.

Many people are asking about Pali payments. Our next payment is due any time before January 30. You can either pay for the next portion:  $175, or get the rest of the payment out of the way:  $350.  Either way, please send it in by January 30. Our final payment date will be announced soon.

    And we're back!
    Happy New Year to all!
I hope everyone had a wonderful 3 weeks off.
We have already gotten right back into the swing of things, tying up some loose ends from before vacation, and heading into new units as well.  Even though it seems like a long time until summer, the reality is that this part of the school year flies by. Before we know it, June will be here!

Just a reminder that our next Pali payment is due January 30.  Please bring it in anytime before that. Thank you so much.

Winter Sing:  December 16 at 8:30 and 1:00.  1st, 3rd, and 5th will be performing in this show.
This year, Welby Way's Student Council is sponsoring a wonderful project of giving.  Each grade level was assigned one family, and then each classroom was assigned a family member.  Room 28 is responsible for helping to make  difference for a 15 year old girl.   Please click on the link below to read more about it.

Our next Pali Payment is due December 14. However, we understand that during the holidays there are many additional expenses, so we are extending the next payment due date to mid-January. Final payments will still be due in February as that is our deadline with Pali.

First of all, I want to thank all of the amazing parents who came out to help make Colonial Day such an overwhelming success!  It took an army of volunteers to make it happen, but we did it, and I know the kids genuinely enjoyed the day and got a LOT out of it!  I also want to congratulate our students on a wonderful performance.  I could not be more proud.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Thanksgiving Break is here! Time is flying by.   Done with Colonial Day, on to the Winter Sing.  The date is set for December 16, times to be determined.  I have posted the songs and the lyrics to the two songs we are singing for the performance on Google Classroom:  Room 28.  Students should listen to the songs and work on memorizing the lyrics over Thanksgiving Break.  Then Miss Kristin can work her magic when we come back.

In addition, students should continue to read over break.  Students can finish a book within that time.  There is no other homework.

I hope that you are all able to enjoy time with family and I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!

Thursday, November 17 is Colonial Day!
We are looking for the following plants to use in Apothecary that day:
lavender, rose petals, rosemary, lemons...and anything else you have growing in your garden.  :)

If you signed up to volunteer, a sheet will go home on Monday with your Colonial Day "assignment."
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Home school will be holding their Colonial Day Presentation at 8:15 on Thursday.  It is less than 30 minutes. We hope you can attend.  The rest of the Colonial Day activities will take place throughout the rest of the day.

Students will have their "Stems Midterm" on Wednesday.  Also, I noticed that most students have missing parts on Investigation 3 in their Physical Science Digital Notebook, so I am going to give them the rest of the week to complete the assigned parts for that investigation.  It will be due Friday.

lavender, roses, rosemary, lemons, basil, and mint...please bring it in by Wednesday so that we can inventory and then purchase what we need.

We are still short on Colonial donations. At this point, we do not have quite enough to pay for the food.  If you have not already sent in a donation and you are able to do,  please do so as soon as possible.  Thank you!
