Resident Culmination will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 10:30.  You do not need to worry about tickets to this event.  All family members are welcome.  Parents may line up ahead of time and seating will be first come, first serve.  Ask your child if they are on the "playground side" or the "office side."  There will be reserved seating for parents who volunteered at last year's culmination.  This is a dress-up occasion.  Some boys choose to wear ties, others do not.  Some wear full suits.  Others do not.  Dress up to the extent that you feel is appropriate for your style. While we expect that girls will wear nice shoes that might even be open-toed (typically a no-no at school, but totally fine for culmination), high heals are not safe or appropriate for this event.  Students should be able to easily and comfortably walk up and down steps, stand for extended periods of time, etc.  If you are planning on taking your child after culmination please be sure to sign them out.  We do expect students to come to school on Thursday and Friday.  We have lots of activities planned.

Room 28 will be taking the ELA portion of the SBAC this week.  So many acronyms!  ELA=English and Language Arts and SBAC= Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium...that's our standardized test.  We will be breaking it up over 3 days:  Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. After having a class discussion, we have decided as a group to push back the math portion of the test until May 23 and 24. This will give us the time we need to finish up our final math concept and review. We have already been using Khan Academy to review the skills from the year, and we will continue to review up until May 22.

During testing times, it is more important than ever to be well-rested and to come to school having had a healthy breakfast.  These tests take a great deal of concentration, focus, and perseverance.  If you haven't yet previewed the format of the test and are interested in doing so, please visit http://www.caaspp.org/ and choose Practice and Training Tests.  The kids will know what to do from there as we have practiced in class already.

A few emails have come home regarding the math placement test for Hale students.  If you are interested in having your child take this test, please be sure to return the permission slip and your child will be tested at some point during the week.  If necessary, we will revise our SBAC testing schedule to accommodate the math test, but that probably won't be necessary.  Please read the latest email from Ms. Yoo which should give you a better understanding of the level of rigor of the accelerated math programs available.

Ballroom dance auditions will be held on Monday, May 8.

We are on a countdown to Pali Camp, and we couldn't be more excited.  Keep your eye on the weather for Running Springs, CA up until the last minute to make sure the kids have the right attire.  Believe it or not, we will be sending home a school field trip slip on Monday.  Please get that back by Wednesday, May 3 and we should be good to go.  Important note about packing: be sure sleeping bag and pillow are in a large bag (garbage bag is fine) and that ALL luggage is clearly marked with child's first and last name and school (room # wouldn't hurt).  Children are expected to carry their own bags to and from the cabin so plan accordingly.  Seems like yesterday we were at Back to School Night talking about Pali Camp together, and now...

This Wednesday we walk to Hale Middle School.  Hale does a fabulous job of highlighting many of the amazing programs they offer their students, touring the 5th graders around the school, and getting them acquainted with middle school life.  We will be leaving immediately in the morning.  Students may bring small backpacks to carry their own water, and are welcome to bring a snack, but Hale typically provides a snack for us.  We will be back by lunchtime.  This is the perfect day to wear Welby wear and 5th Grade apparel!

Next week we have minimum days Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday to accommodate for Parent/Teacher conferences.  A pink sheet went home last week.  If you are interested in conferencing with me, please select times that you are available.  You can also opt out of conferences if you do not feel that it is necessary at this time.

March 1, we are taking a field trip to the Music Center.  Many students returned trip slips, some still have not.  Please click flyer below:
