    Part 1 - Determining Your "Ideal Lifestyle"

       

      As you know, the AVID mission is not only to get you to college, but also to teach you the skills/behaviors necessary to earn your degree and to transition into a professional career. One true mark of success as an adult lies in landing a career that sustains your desired lifestyle and also fulfills your personal goals. Adults who are able to achieve success must maintain their lifestyles by constantly setting new goals and testing the limits of their potential. Maybe now is the time for that reality check:

      1. Visit the link above, and answer the questions regarding your "ideal lifestyle" after college graduation. 

      2. Once the information has been submitted, print the results that determine the necessary salary you'll need to earn in order to afford your "ideal lifestyle." 

      3. Once you have determined your desired salary, browse the site to determine which careers you are interested in and compare the salary information with your results from #2. You will need this information for the upcoming Socratic Seminar.

      Respond to the following prompts:

      I can't believe it, but it is true... You have officially started your senior year. 

      This marks the end of a journey of which you should all take pride - and we should all celebrate! As we begin planning your banquet, we want your voices to be heard. As you know, each banquet is planned using a new theme. AVID12 students... we want your opinion! Which quotation best represents your journey as an AVID student? In order to "hear" all of you, we have decided to elicit responses as a class assignment.

      Directions:
      1. Use Google or Dogpile to search for "motivational quotes."
      2. Read through the variety of quotes, choose one that most represents your journey as an AVID student.
      3. Open a word document, and then copy the quote onto the doc.
      4. Type an explanation for why the quote best represents your journey as an AVID student.
      5. Remember, this quote will be the cornerstone of our banquet, so choose wisely.
      6. When you are finished, copy the response and paste it into the blog, and then submit the printed copy to Mrs. Chase BEFORE you leave the library!

Meeting these responsibilities becomes even more challenging when faced with the reality of our current economic situation. This information may seem pessimistic. However, taking a proactive attitude is the best way to make yourselves competitive in the challenging job market that awaits you after college graduation.
