Mr. and Mrs. Ascone are trying to build a new bedroom. They go to the store to order carpet, and they know the square feet of carpet they need is 240 square feet. When they go order it, the Carpet Man tells them he also need to know the length, width, and perimeter of the room to make the perfect cut of carpet. Mrs. Ascone remembers that one of the walls they measured was 16 ft long.

Is there enough information here to figure out the missing width? (Can you save the Ascone family a trip back home to measure the other wall again?)

If so, what is the missing width? What is the perimter? Answer these two questions by clicking "Add an entry" below. Make sure to include your first name only!

An asteroid lands in Darien and you go over to check it out! You walk over and you see 4 little blue blobs of goo sitting near the asteroid. You go over to take a closer look, and each blob of goo splits into 4 more blobs of goo! You are so startled you take a step back and fall down. You get up just in time to see every blob (new and old) split again into 4 more blobs! Now it's time to call Homeland Security. You call them up and tell the operator what you saw. She asks you how many blobs there are now.

Your job: Find out how many blobs there are now and save Darien! Use a power to express how many blobs there are and then evaluate your power (without a calculator!) Be sure to post your answer below by clicking  "Add a comment". I will post your answer to my blog before class tomorrow.
