Should we really go metric in the US?  Were you convinced by the reasons to "go metric" that you read in the article?  Back up your answer with examples/reasons. (Remember to keep it civil.  Any rude or inappropriate comments will remain unposted and will result in disciplinary action.)

After reading the short article about Cooper's Hawks and deuterium levels, describe the relationship that you see between deuterium levels found in the hawks.  Why do you think that there are varying levels of deuterium throughout the world?  Give some thought and explain...

So...the mysterious writer in Sophie's World uses a great analogy (IMHO) to explain atoms: LEGO.  What is it about LEGO that makes it such a great stand-in for the atom (e.g. what are some characteristics that LEGOs and atoms share)?  Do you think this analogy makes sense?  Why/why not?  Now...imagine that you have to teach the 1st grade about matter and atoms, how could you use LEGO in a lesson to get across the concept of atoms?  What could you ask students to do with LEGO to reinforce the concepts of matter and atoms (including Lavoisier's law of the conversation of matter).  You're the teacher, so teach...

Moving on from measuring things and using the metric system...we are now going to start thinking about the stuff we were measuring and graphing.  What is the the most basic substance from which the universe is composed?  Where did it come from?  How do you think everything is joined together to make the myriad (look it up if you don't know what this word means) things in the universe?  And consider this...could you contain a bit of Moses, or a rainstorm that occurred over Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2000 BC, or even an extinct Tyrannosaurus rex?  Think about it...why?...why not?  Finally, can you explain the title of this post?
