    Using your own experience growing up, as well as at least one of the sources in "Conversation:  Focus on Working Parents" (LOC, 235-247), explain what you consider the most important issue/s a person faces trying to balance family and work.  You should refer to the notes you took when you met with your small groups.

    Young people often disagree with older peoples' views.  In this essay, Goodman expounds her theories on the increase of technology on our culture.  Do you agree with Ellen Goodman's  statement that our times are "so connected yet so fractured"?  Cite one or two specific examples from your reading, experience, or observation to support your position.

         Write an email to Booker T. Washington in the persona of a prominent contemporary
         African-American such as Condoleeza Rice, Barack Obama, Bill Cosby, or Oprah
         Winfrey.  In your one-paragraph email, point out how Washington's values  and
         strategies were right for his day and how they were wrong.  Be sure to
         include what famous personage you are representing.

    Nickel and Dimed and You

    Have you or others you know worked in one of the service industries described in Nickel and Dimed?  How do the anecdotes you have or have heard ferom others compare to Ehrenreich's accounts?  In other words, with which part of the book did you personally connect?  Use specific example/exampels to illustrate.
