We will continue with HRRB practice Wednesday, October 31st. Your child should be finished with his/her first book and be well on his/her way to finishing the second book. In order to be considered for the competition team your child must have completed at least 5 chapter books from the Georgia Book Award list by the end of December. The students are writing excellent reviews for the books! Thank you to Alex Bowen and his mom Angie Bowen for volunteering their time to help coach this year. We have 4 fabulous Brown staff members coaching this year, Mrs. Bassett, Mrs. Ladendorf, Ms. Lattimore, & Mrs. Wohl. I appreciate all the time and energy the students have put into reading and dedicating time to writing reviews. Keep up the good work!

We will begin HRRB practice the first week of October. All 4th grade students from last season HRRB Team will be invited to join us again this year. We will also be adding some new 4th graders to the team as well as those 5th graders who are interested. As before, I will send home a letter indicating our schedule, along with a permission form & transportation form to be completed by parents. The CCSD HRRB competition will be held Saturday, January 19th at McEachern High School. I realize this is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. As a county we are limited as to when we can have it and where. I hope that your child will consider staying in town for the competition. It will be over by 1:00 pm on Saturday. I will be sending information home in mid September. It will be a great year as we make history as the last HRRB team as Brown Elementary. See you in October!

We have begun buzzer practice on Wednesdays. Those students who have completed two books by taking AR test and submitting a review to Destiny may take part in practice. By December 7, students will be required to have 4 books finished in order to participate on teh buzzers. I will identify those students who will be on the competition team on January 11. I will be looking at a number of things to determine who makes the competition team. First, tally marks for answering questions correctly during practice. Second, how many books read and AR scores on them. Third, quality of reviews and attendance to practice. Since we can only have 10 students on the competition team and we have 17 students we have to have requirements to meet in order to compete.
I recommend students to reread books over the Thanksgiving break as well as the two week winter break in December and January.

It was great to see everyone on Wednesday so excited about reading! We had our first practice and handed out the first books. A schedule was sent home with each student along with a transportation form. Parents, please be sure to complete the form and send it back by next Wednesday so we know where to send your child after practice is over.
The requirements this year for each student will be to post a summary/review on Destiny and on the HRRB blog site. The students will also be required to take the AR test, as well as the vocabulary and literacy test if it is available. In order to be considered for the competition team, students must read atleast 5 books, have taken AR tests, and written reviews.
There are some books about disabilities and illnesses, such as cancer. I encourage you to ask your chidl about the book and maybe have him/her read some to you. The selection is great this year!
    See you next Wednesday!

We will have our initial HRRB meeting during school after Labor Day this year. Students in grades 4-5 are allowed to be on the team.  Teacher recommended students are invited to attend to find out what it is about and receive information to take home to parents.
Meetings will be every Wednesday beginning the week after Labor Day. A schedule will be given to students along with a parent signature sheet. The list of books is available on the HRRB page. Books will be checked out to students during September - December so they can read and familiarize themselves with books. Competition will be held at McEachern High School in January.
