    Wonderful practice today guys!

I think we're really starting to get a handle on what we do and do NOT need to do to be successful in our events. Today we worked on Grab a Gram, Leaf and Tree Finder, Large Number Estimation, Mystery Architecture, Mystery Boxes and Paper Rockets. Next week we'll be practicing Session III.

Please make sure that you are completing ALL homework for your event! This includes answering ALL OF THE QUESTIONS listed below! Some of you are only answering some of the questions or just giving partial answers. I know we can do better than that.

Also, a few of you have mentioned having some trouble getting into Study Blue to add cards. This link will take you to the blog post that explains how to get in and add cards.  If you still have trouble, please check with a coach or come by and see me before school.

Please answer the questions below by Wednesday of next week!

    Thanks,

    Ms. L.

    1. What is one new thing you learned during practice today?
    2. What homework (other than these questions) did your coach assign to you?
    3. What is one thing you are going to work on to get better at the event you practiced toay?
    4. What event are you working on next week?

    Hello everyone,

I apologize for taking so long to get this post up! It's been a hectic couple of days! Last week we practiced our Session #1 events - A for Anatomy, Chopper Challenge, Crime Busters, Deep Blue Sea, Disease Detectives, and Food for Thought. Everyone worked really hard and I am so proud of what you have accomplished so far. We are adding an additional meeting which is going to change our schedule slightly. We will be practicing Session II events tomorrow - Thursday December 8th. I know this is a late change, but I think we will benefit from the extra practice time.

Please answer the questions below before practice tomorrow if at all possible.

    Thanks,

    Ms. L.

1.) What is one thing you learned about last week during our Session I practice?
2.) What are you practicing this week?
3.) What is one thing you need to improve on for what you are practicing this week?

Well, we're less than 24 hours away from Thanksgiving break and I have to say that I'm really impressed by how focused all of you were today and how hard you worked on your events! For homework (which is due when you come back from break) I'd like you to answer the following questions:

1.) What Session 2 Event did you practice at the practice before this one and what is one thing you remember from it?
2.) What Session 3 Event did you practice TODAY and what is one thing you learned?
3.) What (other than Smencils) do you think students want to buy the most at our Science Olympiad School Store?
4.) What are you going to do over break to help get ready for your events?
5.) What event will you be practicing at our next practice?

Please make sure you number your responses!

Today we talked about using www.studyblue.com to create online flashcards to study for our events. The login for our team is brownscienceolympiadteam@gmail.com and the password is what we talked about --- but you WILL need to capitalize it! :) Please make sure that if you are adding flashcards that you include your initials on the card so that we know who added it. Also, please make sure that if you add cards, that you add them under the correct event! It would not make sense to have information about sharks under rock hound!

My challenge to you over break is (if you have internet access) to add at least 5-10 cards. They don't all have to be for the same event and they don't all have to have pictures. In fact, it would be great if some were just questions and answers or words and definitions.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and I'll see you soon!

    Ms. L.

P.S. We have raised $75 toward our goal ---- that means that one student can now attend Nightcrawlers Zoo Tech Program free of charge!!!! :)

Today after some fun with yarn (Thanks Miss Messinger!) we tried out two events- Paper Rockets and Grab a Gram. Post a comment with at least one thing you learned about the event you practiced today! Also, if you think you may be interested in competing in one of these events but did not put it on your "top four list" from last week, let me or one of the other coaches know!

    Thanks,

    Ms. L.
