CoGAT testing begins tomorrow, September 9th, and continues until Friday, September 11th.  CoGAT testing will last about 30 minutes each morning.  Please make sure your child gets a good night's rest, eats a healthy breakfast, has two sharpened #2 pencils, and is on time to school each day.  This way they will have a positive testing experience each testing day!  This is also important for ITBS testing (Sept. 14-18th).  ITBS testing will last for about 2 hours each morning.  Homework next week will be lighter due to testing.  Your child will be very tired at the end of each day!

Let's work together to make sure your child does their best on the test!

All Georgia students are expected to meet the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).  The GPS outline what each student should know, understand, and be able to do in core content areas. The Cobb County report card used in previous years evaluated students’ progress against the previous state curriculum (QCC).  To more effectively communicate student progress toward meeting the GPS, a more descriptive evaluation tool has been implemented by the Cobb County School District.

This year, third grade students will be included in the Primary Reporting System (K-3). As in kindergarten, first, and second grades, the purpose is to provide clear communication to students and parents on the student’s progress toward meeting the state standards.

The Primary Reporting System uses the following indicators to report performance:

3+     Exceeds Standards – In addition to the 3, makes applications and inferences beyond expectations.
3       Meets Standards consistently and independently
2       Progressing toward meeting the standards
1       Limited progress or does not meet standards

When using this system, each student is assessed to determine to what extent (3+, 3, 2, or 1) he/she demonstrates mastery of the standard.

The Primary Reporting System uses the following indicators to report learning skills and behaviors:

S       Successful - Student displays appropriate learning skills and behaviors
P       Progressing - Student is progressing; displays appropriate learning
skills and behaviors most of the time
N       Needs Improvement - Student does not display learning skills and
             behaviors that lead to success

When using this system, each student is assessed to determine to what extent (S, P, or N) he/she demonstrates learning skills and behaviors that lead to success at school.
