We had a terrific Simple Machines Day.
Your child experienced everything from catapults, to changing tires with a lever, to making a mini flag pole/pulley, to testing weighted objects on many different inclined planes, learning lots of unit vocabulary and making marble ramps.  A special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Hale for both fantastic history and actual demonstrations of a catapult in action!

I would love to have some parents "dress up" the area outside of our class window.  If you are interested in planting some pansies or other "winter plants" please let me know!

Please join your child for a delicious Thanksgiving meal on Novemeber 11th in the cafe.  Return your orange form to save a spot (and help in planning enough food:).

Congrats!  Our compliment chain goal was reached so we had tons of "popcorn" to much on this Friday!  I am so proud of our class and their behavior.   What will be the next word to spell for each compliment?

Please print out the new bus passes if your child will ride home with a friend on a different bus.  They must have this new form.  It is attached to the fourth grade bog.  Please let me know if you need me to print a few for you just in case.

We are in need of clorox wipes and wooden pencils (pre sharpened if possible).  If you could donate either of these it would be greatly appreciated.

Hope you were able to log on at www.firstinmath.com and play the 24Math game.  Eleven students did try it out!  What a fun way to review math.  I was hoping for everyone to try this game.  You really are missing out if you don't play.

The homework link has been added to help out with homework.  Now that we are in the second nine weeks, you and your child should be getting into a comfortable homework routine.

You know where to find reading logs (parent documents), you know where to find the week at a glance (announcements), and you know what upcoming events are planned (calendar).

Your child is becoming more organized and independent.

With the quarter ending Friday, I want to make sure any work marked "Redo and Return" is back in to me so I can adjust the grade.  Also we have a social studies test Friday on Maps and Globes.  I already gave the study guide and signature sheet to your child giving plently of time to review.   Happy Study Time.

As the quarter comes to a close, you should see a more organized binder.  In fact, you should see quite a few reference papers for the Maps and Globes unit in their binder.  These papers help both you and your child when reviewing for the test this week.  You should see assignments written clearly in their agenda.  The routines have been established and my behavior plan is in place.  Our economy is up and running...no recession here!  If you can not "find" things on this site, please click on the various tabs and see what is there.  I did have a few studnets tell me that they didn't have reading logs because they could not "find" them.  Check PARENT DOCUMENTS for a form.  I am looking forward to even more responsible and organized students next quarter.  Great job to my class.  You have already come a long way since the first of the year.

Don't forget that Picture Day is this Tuesday.  Money envelopes went home in your child's work folder.  Our field trip to the Youth Museum is this Thursday.  We will be back in time for lunch.  I have all permission slips on file so we are good to go.

You might see that this week's focus is somewhat the same as last week.  Well, with two days off due to the weather, we will need to catch up a bit!  We did not have Homeworkopoly this past week either but will play it this Friday.

The quarter is coming to a end in two weeks and I will be asking for any make up work if your child has been out or has been asked to redo.  I will not accepted any after the quarter closes.

Hope the Map-in-a-Month project is going well.  I look forward to seeing everyone's finished project and presentation.

    Happy Autumn.

Did you see the Map-In-A-Month project?  Yessssss...it does take a month to finish.  Perhaps, you might want to do a few activities together on afternoon, but follow the outline.  It is a great way to review map skills.  My own daughters did this fun project too!!  I thought I had a sample to show, but thanks to Molly, Darby's big sister, we have an awesome sample on display in the classroom!  Thanks to Mrs. Pinkard for saving this project. :)

Make sure your child has a chapter book in their bookbag.  We do have sielnt reading daily and I would like to see your child curl up in a "cozy corner" with a good book and not be picking out a book from my shelf each day.  Don't you wish for a day that YOU could read in a "cozy corner?"

Last week, we used tree rings for a cool addition and subtraction activity.  Ask your child about this super fun math.  Check the announcement page for another academic update or what is panned for the week.  I don't think it needs to be in two places on this site.  I will be renaming this as just my "chatter" page.  This is where you will find info about all sorts of things.  We are in need of help with our Fall Festival Basket.  Please contact Mrs. Owens, Sarah's Mom with ideas about a theme.
