We have an author coming to visit Keheley. When this happens, they often offer a chance to get signed books! This is exciting to me. If you would like your child to buy a signed book, the order form is on Keheley's web page. Please look at this and send in the info with your child.
Thanks, Mrs. C.

Ms. Roberts, a Georgia native now living on St. Simons Island, has just returned from her 20th trip to Africa. Her stunning photos of African animals are the highlight of her children’s books. All her books aim to foster a sense of self-worth in all children, showing them that we are all different and uniquely special.
The books retail for $19.95, but Keheley families can get signed copies for just $15.00! Please fill out this order form and send it with payment to Keheley’s Media Center before Feb. 16. Checks should be made out to Patsy Smith Roberts. (Parents are welcome to preview the books in the Media Center.)

Hello, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and the Atlanta Hawks are teaming up.
The event is the 2010 Red Ribbon Celebration that will be held on October 30, 2010 at Philips Arena in Atlanta.
We are asking that you help us make this a great celebration by asking as many parents and students to attend this event as possible. I am attaching the forms that have all of the information that you need, they include an announcement and ticket request form. The tickets are discounted at $10, and there will be gifts for students to take home, a program hosted by the Atlanta Hawks and guest speakers for everyone to enjoy.
Please distribute this information to as many schools, organizations and others as you possibly can.
Thank you;
Harry Thornton

I hope everyone had a wonderful break! I know I did!
We worked on regrouping with addition before the break. Please review this with your child. It's a tough standard to grasp and keep in the mind. We will review it at school also. We will go to money when we return. This too, is a tough skill. Please have your child count money in wallets and purses regularly. Also ask how they could achieve the same amount with different coins. Don't let them tell you all pennies!
In Social Studies, we have been studying Georgia Regions, Georgia rivers, Creek and Cherokee Native Americans. We have enjoyed our Social Studies content.
Rita's night is Tuesday night! Come out and have a treat!

Much like the apples on a tree, the students in my class are growing everyday. They are eager to learn in every way. I am very grateful for that!
We continue to learn how to write with descriptive words. We are learning how to write complete thoughts. Subjects and predicates were taught. We are in the process of learning how to fill in a detailed web and then will write an entire piece from that organizational map.
In math, we have learned the commutative property and identity property. This week, we will attack the associative property along with other strategies to add.
With Language Arts, we have already gobbled up many phonetic themes. This week, we will concentrate on short and long i. Look on the website and click on the a,b,c blocks for the current spelling list.
We will continue discovering the regions of Georgia . As we walk through the hills and valleys coastal plains and mountains, we will also discover the many important rivers of Georgia.

Time is flying by! We have learned so much already this year.
In math, we have learned place value, representing a number, commutative property and identity property.
In reading, we are quickly learning many phonics patterns, how to take care of a book, how to pick a book using the five finger method, how to look up words in a dictionary and how to use a Thesaurus. In Social Studies, we are continuing our study of Georgia. We are currently learning the 5 regions of our great state. You will see a great looking flip book when your child takes it home to share.
We have already grown with behavior and responsibilities. We still need to work on controlling our talking to maximize our learning experience at Keheley Elementary.
