Big news: Open House has been switched from Thursday, August 27 to Tuesday, August 25. PTA meeting begins at 6:30pm, followed by Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Open House (6:50pm to 7:30pm). 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Open House begins at 7:45pm and lasts until 8:25pm. Please note this change!

I'll try and answer all questions you have and give an idea of what our day is like in the classroom. I'll also cover expectations for the year.

Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Whew! Everyone survived the first day.

I sent home the first Reading Log. Directions are found on the back side of the log. Boils down to students must read 70 pages a week, at least one night's reading must be done in a different genre (2 different genres a week). This will help ensure that the student will read from all the genres by the end of the year. Standards say the kids must read 25 books this year. We consider 125 pages to be one book. If the child reads a book that is 500 pages, it is really 4 books in our eyes. Reading Logs are due each Monday. Each child that turns it in on time is rewarded with extra recess on Wednesdays and with a special program one day each nine weeks.

Also going home today is the Cobb County folder. Please look through this for important information. Any forms need to be returned this week.

I'm having some issues with my web provider at the moment. Some updates were not showing earlier and I hope to have those issues ironed out soon.

    Thanks,
    Shane Brazile

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone's summer was great. My summer was tremendous. It started with an almost three week RV trip out west with my family and another family. We visited Gateway Arch, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Yellowstone National Park, Arches National Park, Zion National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, and Carlsbad Caverns National Park. In all, we visited 17 states, traveled almost 6,000 miles, experienced 25 degree weather and 107 degree weather, and saw more incredible things than I can list here. It was a blast.
The school year brings anticipation and some jitters. Whatever you're experiencing, it starts Monday and we'll have a great year. Check out the web site, I use it everyday and it provides a wealth of information.
Any questions, just hit the email button and ask.

Check out the supplies list to see what you need (found at the "current information" link). For my specific class, I'll also need each student to have a sharpener and 2 more notebooks.

For around $20 a year, you can sponsor a superhero! I've had great success in the classroom using comic books to get kids interested in reading. Unfortunately, my collection has seen better days and needs to be replenished. Check out this link https://www.cambeywest.com/dcc/dccunivgift.asp and any of the "Johnny DC" titles are appropriate. If you choose to purchase a class subscription, you may send it to me c/o Kemp at 865 Corner Road; Powder Springs, GA 30127. Another place to check out is http://subscriptions.marvel.com/?utm_source=home&utm_medim=balloon_link&utm_campaign=MDC+Wball&utm_content=Subscribe+Comics. With Marvel, the "All Ages" label means it's appropriate for young readers.

    Thank you,
