It is hard to believe that it is time for progress reports. Please keep in mind that this is only half way through the grading period and plenty of time to improve grades. I will send home some suggestions for extra practice on the internet for our second graders.

MAP testing will be done this year on the computer so it will be over a 2 week period starting next week. I will share more about the testing this year when I have more information.

We had our first "cooking" experience on Friday. We followed a recipe and made mice cookies to go along with our Kevin Henkes author study. The children really enjoyed cooking. Our next cooking experience will be making lemonade in 2 weeks.

Open House was a great time to get to see all of our families. The students enjoyed getting to show you everything we do during the day. The pizza was an added surprise for the students that attended Open House. Thank you for all that you do for your child and our classroom. I appreciate the extras you do for our classroom. A volunteer schedule will be coming home soon after Labor Day.

    A few upcoming events -

We have had a wonderful week. The children are really learning all the routines and procedures in class.  We shared our all about me bags this week. They did a wonderful job sharing about themselves and answering questions that their friends asked.

Please remember to have tennis shoes for our playtime. Water is always allowed to be brought from home, since it is so hot.

    Pictures will be on Tuesday.

We have had a great first two days of school. I have really enjoyed getting to know the students. We have begun our normal Friday routine complete with a spelling pretest and assigning homework for the upcoming week. In the homework it says read Ann's First Day, I have not sent home the reading books yet.  I will send home the reading book two days next week so your child can practice reading the story. Thank you for sending back the volunteer form and the student information form. I will be sending out newsletters via email and the students will write reminders in their green handbooks for you. Please let me know if there are any concerns.

I hope that you are excited about 2nd grade. Please take time to review the welcome letter and parent information packets. Fill out the student information sheet and volunteer sheet.  Return to school when possible.  See you on Thursday, August 6th at 8:30 am. Remember dismissal is at 3:10 pm.  Car dismissal will be outside of the gym unless they have a younger sibling (Pre-k to 1st), then they will join their sibling out front for car dismissal.
