Today we had a spectacular day at Target. Instead of starting off with Vocabulary Cartoon cards, we studied our cards for the test. After that, we played Vocabulary Jeopardy. Then, we took our Vocabulary quiz. Almost all of us got either a 90, 95 or 100. Anyone who did not needs to study more for their quiz! Above and Beyond presentations were next. They were about tsunamis, the Ares I-X test rocket, and sharks. We learned some very interesting facts from the presentations like sharks don't have bones. After that, we chose our bat for the Itty Bitty Bat book and then we began our research. Please continue your research at home. Finally, we wrote this blog that you are reading right now. Although it was a short day, we used our time wisely and learned a lot.
Remember to research your bat. Bring your Target binder, signed Target Tally, a snack and water bottle. There are three more Target days to present Above and Beyond projects. While Mrs. Lyjak is testing, our Target day will end before Specials.

Today we had a great day in Target but we got drenched on our way to the trailer. As always, we started out with Vocabulary Cartoon cards. We will put our words in our blog. See if you can guess what they are! After that, we used an interactive tablet to write about megabats and microbats. Then Mrs. Lyjak read us a chapter of a nonfiction book about bats. We learned that bats will not hurt you or get tangled in your hair. We found out that often when photographers take pictures of bats they hold their wings and blow into their faces and then snap the picture. This makes the bats scared and the bats show their sharp teeth and puff up their bodies so they look scary and ferocious. Actually, bats aren't harmful and they are quite helpful by eating bugs and spreading seeds. Next, we became mammalogists and sorted bat pictures into megabats and microbats using their physical characteristics. After Specials, we played Equate. Finally, we typed this blog you are reading now. Today we were in bliss in Target.
Remember to bring a snack, a water bottle, your Target binder and your signed Target Tally. Please sign the Continuation Criteria form and return it to Mrs. Lyjak.

Today we had the best day in Target yet. We started out with vocabulary cartoon cards. The words were horizontal and vertical. After that, several people gave Above and Beyond presentations. They were about blood, giraffes, fairy penguins and Aztec pyramids. Then we listened to a barn owl screech and learned some interesting facts about animals that were nocturnal. Next we made bat masks. First we put the bat pattern onto the foam horizontally. Then we traced around it while our partner held it in place and we cut it out. We decorated however we liked with sequins, glitter glue and fun foam shapes. While we were making bat masks, Ms. Mavity came in our vertical door and we told her what we were making and also about why it is good to have bats around our school. After we finished our bat masks, we played a game called SET on the computer. We found lots of matches but many did not work. It was challenging and fun. Finally we typed this blog that you are reading right now. We had a fun day in Target.
Remember to bring a snack, a signed Target Tally, a water bottle and your Target binder. If you did not finish Stellaluna Web Quest, please finish it and turn it in to Mrs. Lyjak.

Today in Target it was an awesome day. We started off with vocabulary cartoon cards like we always do. The words were fleet and parallel. For some of us, fleet was a tricky word to think of a sentence for. We learned that fleet means a group of cars, boats, or other type of vessels and parallel means two lines that are beside each other that never meet. Next, one of us presented an Above and Beyond project about deer. Then we learned about physical characteristics by doing Just Between Bats. We sorted bat pictures by their physical characteristics such as hanging and not hanging or big ears and small ears. After that, we did a Venn Diagram using pictures of a free-tailed bat and a long-eared bat. Some ways that bats are alike are able to fly, have two eyes, have two ears, have guts, and have a heart. Differences in bats are size of their eyes, size of their noses, size of their ears, and size of their wingspan. Mrs. Ranger sent us a bat movie to watch. We finished our day by playing Equate and then we typed this blog you are reading now. We loved our Target Day.
Remember to bring your Target binder, signed Target Tally, a nutritious scrumdilicious snack and a water bottle. Your Stellaluna web quest is due next Wednesday.

Today was a great day in Target. First we wrote our Vocabulary Cartoon cards. The vocabulary words were encroach and prance. Encroach means to intrude on a person's space. Prance means to walk about in a lively manner. Next we learned about megabats and microbats using the Stellaluna web quest and the laptops. We learned how mother bats take care of their babies. Mother bats find their babies in the nursery by smell and sound. We learned about echolocation. Bats use their ears, mouths, and wings to make sounds that echo back so they know where they are going. If the sound bounces back it means something is in their way. Next week we will finish Stellaluna web quest and write a letter to Stellaluna. Then we solved math problems while playing Equate. Last, we typed this blog you are reading right now.
Remember to bring your signed Target Tally and binder. Also Target report cards are with the Target Tally this week. We did not get the Continuation Criteria form this week so I will send it home when we get it. Bring a delicious, nutritious snack and a water bottle.

Today we had a totally awesome day at Target. First thing we studied our vocabulary cartoon cards so we could solve the test. Then we played Vocabulary Jeopardy. In this game, one person selected a category and a number of points. Then everyone wrote the answer on a slate where we had written the words "What is" and then a "?". We used remotes to take our vocabulary quiz and we had to be sure to point our remotes at R2D2 to answer the questions. Our test grades will be written on our Target Tally. After that, we presented our Above and Beyond projects. They were about goldfish, feathers, rockets, legos, king cobras, black holes, spotted turtles, and triathlons. Next we got a computer and most of us worked with a buddy and started our Stellaluna web quest. In the web quest, we will learn about types of bats, bat families, where bats live, what bats eat, and echolocation. Last, we played Equate to solve lots of math problems. Then we typed this blog that you are reading right now!! See how today was totally awesome!
Remember to bring a signed Target Tally, Target binder, a delicious and nutritious snack and a water bottle. There are two more Above and Beyond projects due next 9 weeks. Please start on them early.

Today we had a super day at Target. A lot of us presented Above and Beyond projects. They were all great and interesting. They were about squirrels, Titanic, turtles, space shuttles, the moon, tigers, rockets, and lava tubes. We learned to play Equate which is like Scrabble except that it is math equations. It was awesome. We worked on our Vocabulary Cartoons. We learned the words fertile which means to reproduce children, seeds or fruit, and aqueduct which is a large pipe that carries water. We will bring home ten vocabulary cartoon cards to study for the test next week. Some of us lost a couple of our cards and had to redo them. People who finished their vocabulary cartoons solved logic problems. See how super our day was!
Remember to bring your delicious, nutritious snack, your lunch, and a water bottle. Bring your Target binder and signed Target Tally. There is only one week left to present Above and Beyond projects so finish them up! Study your vocabulary cartoon words for the test.

Today in Target we had a good day. When we came in, Mrs. Lyjak had set out Vocabulary Cartoons for us to do. Some of the Vocabulary Cartoon cards were difficult for some of us. Most of us completed them. After the vocabulary cartoon cards, we learned about dichotomous keys. We divided our shoes into a dichotomous key. Then we went to our seats and made some dichotomous keys of our own out of buttons and our flying clips. We then went to our specials. When we returned to Target we shared our dichotomous keys with the class. It is now time for lunch, let's hope it is good!
Reminders:
Nutritious & delicious & scrumdiliicious snacks
Water bottles
Signed Target Tally (did not get a new one this week) & Target Binder
Mrs. Lyjack went home sick this afternoon, she will fill in any holes with the class that I may have missed!
