    Hey Mrs. Zider's Paint Crew-
Welcome to our new school year!  We are off to a great start with our painting theme this year.  Wasn't that fun painting the background on the hall display?  We had paint everywhere!  What do you think of your picture on the hall bulletin board?  Write and tell us about your favorite part of first grade so far.  I know we will have a fun year of learning together!
    Love,
    Mrs. Zider

    Hey there you Cool Cats,
We sure explored a lot about the number 50 and what it was like to live in the 50's. What would you like about living back then? What do you think would be hard if you went back in time to live in the 1950's? Let us know your thoughts...

    Dear Boys and Girls,

Scarecrow Day was such a fun day full of learning. Tell us about your favorite part. Which activity did you like the best? Why? How did you feel about dressing up like a scarecrow? Did you share the slideshow with your parents?

Johnny Appleseed Day sure was fun! Write and tell us about your favorite part. Did you like the parade, painting seasons of trees, tasting different apples, or making applesauce, weighing apples, or measuring them with cubes? How about planting the grass seed? Did you like the secret star in the middle of the apple, or tracking Johnny's journey on the map? I know you liked the tasting party! What about the Pie Graph, bar graph, or picture graph? We sure learned a lot about looking at data! We would love to hear your thoughts and opinions!

    Hi Proud Americans!
What fun we had celebrating America on Sept. 11th!  Tell us your thoughts on the day.  Did you have fun making a friendship bracelet with a new friend?  Tell about a response you have to the books, On Sept. 12th We Knew Everything Would Be OK or It's a Big, Beautiful World Out There!  We learned and sang many patriotic songs.  We also found out what it means when we say "The Pledge of Allegiance."  What did you think about our flag parade and making the Pioneer whole school red, white, and blue living star?  Write and tell about your favorite parts of the day.  For sure we turned a sad day from history into a fun day learning about America.  We LOVE the U.S.A.!!!!

    Dear Boys and Girls,
What a fantastic first week we had for the 2012-2013 school year! I am proud of you all and the way you are already "diving into learning." Wait until you see your diving mask pictures on the bulletin board outside our classroom. Mrs. Zider's Dive Team is one really cool bunch of kids! I know we will have a wonderful week two in first grade! Keep up the great work! Write and tell us what you like about first grade so far...

    Hi Girls and Boys,
Tell us about Pumpkin Math and Candycorn Math.  What did you learn?  We estimated the circumference of the pumpkin.  Did your pumpkin float?  How many seeds did your group count?  Was your estimate close to the real number?  We had 1,045 seeds total for all four pumpkins.  Do you remember how we got that total with flats, rods, and units?
We also measured length using candycorn.
How do you feel about special math days?  Would you like to more of these holiday math lessons?
