Keep Mandeville Beautiful (KMB) and the City of Mandeville are calling all volunteers to help beautify and cleanup Mandeville on Saturday, April 27th from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. The event is being held in conjunction with Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup.

Litter, graffiti, unkempt streets, roads, blocks and parks are far more than just unsightly; these are symptoms of uncaring behavior and a wake-up call for citizens who are concerned about their community’s quality of life. Keep Mandeville Beautiful needs your help in answering that call!  On Saturday, April 27th, your group can make a visible difference in Mandeville by joining us for the annual Great American Cleanup™!

The event offers a wide range of beautification projects in addition to litter cleanup.  Individuals, families and groups of all ages can volunteer for various projects that will improve the overall appearance of Mandeville such as litter cleanup, and weeding and mulching gardens.  Families, church groups, civic groups, businesses, Girl and Boy Scouts, Garden Clubs, Master Gardeners and school groups are all encouraged to roll up their sleeves for three hours. Student volunteers can earn community service hours. All volunteers are asked to pre-register.  The first 200 volunteers to pre-register will receive a t-shirt.

KMB will provide each volunteer with a safety vest, litter grabber and bags.  Volunteers are invited back to the lakefront after the cleanup for the Watershed Festival, booths with family-fun, interactive educational activities.  Drinks, popcorn and cotton candy will also be offered to volunteers.

The registration form for this project can be found in the NJHS documents tab of this website.

The spring service projects include February, March, and April. You must complete a service project for two of the three months.

Any student who participated in the “Gave from the Heart” campaign and sold at least 10 hearts is only required to complete four service hours between March 1 and April 30.  Those students who did not sell all 10 hearts are required to complete eight service hours during that time period.

REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST GET A “PROOF OF SERVICE” FORM COMPLETED TO DOCUMENT YOUR WORK. TURN THESE IN TO THE TRAY OUTSIDE ROOM 404 AS YOU COMPLETE YOUR SERVICE.

Paperwork was handed out at the last meeting.  First was the late policy.  This document must be signed by student and parent and returned before the next meeting, which is Wednesday, November 14.  Students who do not return this will not be allowed to attend the meeting.

The other document was one given to students whose membership is in probationary status.  This also has to be signed by both student and parent and returned before the next meeting.

Also, before the next meeting students should secure a $10 donation to help defray the cost of postage to send the care packages to our troops overseas.  They were given a document to use for this purpose.
At the November 14th meeting, students will make and decorate cards and stockings for the troops.  They will work with a partner to decide what to bring to the November 28 meeting to send to the troops.  Students must attend both meetings and have the donation and supplies to receive credit for the November service project.
