Eliot is a big brother! His sister was born on Friday. We have some ideas for how to take care of new babies at home:
    Eliot- Drink milk.
Nerialie- Babies need to eat baby food.
Oliver- You need to change the baby's diaper.
Zohar- Don't let them go outside by themselves.
Avery- Put them in the crib.
    Lev- Give them applesauce.
Graham- Entertain the baby so they don't go outside by making patterns with them.
    Morgan- Give them naps.
    Yorik- They need milk.
Noah- Don't put electric chords or they'll bite them.
Kayla- They need a lot of sleep.
Rowan- Don't put any electric things in their room because they might get shocked.
    Hyewon- Don't hand them marbles.
    Jack- Feed them smashed peas.
Rotem- Don't give them sharp things.
    James- Change the baby's diaper.
Finn- Be nice to the baby because if you don't be nice to the baby they cry.
    Jonathan- Smile to them.
Sonia- Be gentle with the baby.

KW is having four babies this year. We are thinking about babies a lot! Here are our wonderings:
*Will another mom in KW have a baby?
*Does the baby cry when you cry?
*How old are babies when they come out?
*What do babies really look like in your tummy?
*How do babies move upside down when they are sleeping in your tummy?
*Does it hurt when the baby comes out?
*How small is a baby when it comes out?
*Is it dark in your tummy?
*Where do babies go to the bathroom in your tummy?
*Do they go potty when you go potty?
*Do babies yawn when you yawn?

Thanks to Carin Aquiline for sharing the video below. She writes, "I've been meaning to send since I viewed the video you posted on the KW site about how the population of the world is changing: Though one could argue that this video does not reflect Brookline in some of its statistics, I think it is nevertheless raises important questions about how we are using digital technologies to the advantage of our children/students."
This video, like the other technology one shared in the fall, gets me thinking... I still don't have answers yet for what "Best Practices" look like in my kindergarten classroom. I invite you to join the discussion. What are your views?

We started talking about time yesterday. We discussed time in terms of morning, afternoon and evening. The children did an activity where they drew pictures of things they do during these three times of day. We brainstormed a list of things KW knows about time. Here are the wonderful ideas:

*If the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on a different number it is “something- o –clock.”

    *Time is running out.

*You don’t eat breakfast at night.

*You don’t eat dinner in the morning.

*You don’t go to bed at noon.

*You can have a midnight snack.

    *Time always changes.

*There is time between breakfast and lunch.

*You don’t eat lunch in the morning.

*Breakfast is in the morning. Lunch is in the afternoon. Dinner is in the night.

    *Dessert is in the night.

    *After 12 it is afternoon.

*Kindergarten does not go to school at night.

*Time flies when you are having fun.

*Why did the dummy throw the clock out the window? Because he wanted to see time fly!

    Dear Families,

Our class breakfast and performance were a success! KW children make great pirates, don't you think? Thank you to everyone who could come. It was great to see your smiling faces! And for those of you who couldn't make it, please know you were in our thoughts and we missed you!

As we said this morning, this class of students is such a sweet bunch. This is in large part due to YOU- their families! We are so appreciative of all the gifts you surprised us with today! As we unwrapped them "ooo's" and "yeeees's" went up all over the classroom. The children are very excited to begin using our new toys and reading our new books. It helps us look forward to great things after vacation... and speaking of vacation:

REST, RELAX, ENJOY! See you all in 2012. Can you believe we have already arrived at this point in our year?!? Time flies when you are having fun!

    Sincerely,
    Laura & Stacy
