    In the course of human history, there have been times when governments have decided that a whole group of people are enemies of that government. As a result, those governments have moved the group forcibly from one part of the country to another so that the rest of the people can feel safe. Do you think a government has the right to do this? As you write your response, think about what happened to the Navaho in “Sing Down the Moon”. You can also refer to other similar situations in world history that you know about.

    Bright Morning, Rosita, and Nehana are all kept as slaves, yet they all felt differently about their situation.  Discuss how you would feel if you were forced into slavery.  Would you feel fortunate as Rosita does, or would you try to escape as Nehana does - believing life is not worth living if you belong to someone else.  Support your entry with evidence from the book Sing Down the Moon and other books that you have read.
