Ah, young Hamlet! What a mess of trouble he is in! We discussed why his father would want him, of all people, to handle this mess...to make him "man up" so to speak. Now he appears to have gone a bit crazy....or is he?

Could this be a part of his plan? Do you think that the steps that he has taken thus far are working? In this week's blog, discuss how he is handling this difficult situation - what is working and what is not? Why?

Show insight as to what is happening for credit.

Also, check out the Epic Hamlet video under Video of the Week link. It is hysterical! It is only about 7 minutes long  and is a great review for those who are confused!

As we prepare to spend the holiday with our families and loved ones, we should take a moment and be specific about what it is that we are thankful for this year.
For me, I am thankful that I am in good health, that I have a wonderful, healthy family, many kind and loving friends, and that I have a job to come to every day, when many in our country do not.
Reflect for a moment about what you are grateful for this year ....

As we prepare to read Shakespeare's Hamlet, I would like us to reflect on the fact that we have read at least one selection of this author each year. Given that he is a British author and playwright why do you suppose that educators feel that his work is of such value to you?
Give some thought to your answer and relate your response to a PARTICULAR work of the ultimate Bard, William Shakespeare.

Much of our music today is loud and  mean; that is a personal opinion. Ballads can tell a story just as well as a novel or short story.
Try to recall a tender, loving ballad that you like, one that tells a romantic story. Identify the song and discuss why you like it.

During our few days of conversation about the Arthurian Legends and King Arthur himself, I am wondering  what your thoughts are about the relevance of this topic in our society today.
Do we have, or do we NEED to have, a perfect society such as the one that King Arthur tried so hard to attain?
PS. Thanks for a great first week back!!!

This one of my favorite tales of all. It has so much going on! I particularly like that it is a fable, which makes it appealing to all ages. It also is a story within a story- a frame story (remember Ethan Frome?).
In this blog, identify the ways in which this tale could be a parody of things going on during the time period.
PS. I look forward to seeing you all next week!:)

As we prepare to read Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, let us dwell a moment on the idea of social commentary. The idea behind the tales was to provide a sort of social commentary of society at the time.
For this blog, I want you to take on the persona of a person living in our society today (be as creative as you wish) and provide a commentary of the state of things in our society from THEIR point of view. Identify the character you select and be accurate in your response as to today's issues.

I am hoping that you are enjoying the reading of one of the first literary works written - Beowulf. Though he is indeed a hero, there are some characterisitics of this epic hero that one may find sor of offensive today.

So, examine the MAN Beowulf and determine what some of the attributes are that you find least appealing. What about his larger than life persona turns you off???
